NFL Free Agency 2011: Steven Jackson Staying with the St. Louis Rams?
Quick, who’s the toughest running back in the NFL? If you said Steven Jackson, we’re on the same page (although there are MANY acceptable answers here).
Steven Jackson IS the Rams’ run game. Even though he was banged up for a good portion of the season, he managed to start every game, racking up 330 carries, 1241 yards, and 46 receptions. He always adapts to his QB, and he and Sam Bradford combined to make the Rams’ offense much better than most expected in 2010.
Face it: the Rams’ offense is centered around Jackson, especially without an elite receiver on St Louis’ roster. Sam Bradford aced his rookie season, but he’s not ready to carry a team on his own. A back like Jackson that can catch the ball out of the backfield and make things happen makes a rookie quarterback's job a lot easier.
A handful of teams would love to land Jackson, chiefly Washington and Denver. But there’s simply no way St. Louis lets him leave.
Prediction: Steven Jackson stays with the Rams
