NFL Free Agency 2011: Nnamdi Asomugha Headed to Dallas Cowboys?
Nnamdi is, by any measure, the cream of the free agency crop. He is the definition of a shut-down corner, and is arguably the best defensive back in the entire NFL.
While he is getting up there a little bit in age (he’ll be 30 before the 2011 season starts), his skills are certainly not on the decline. 2010 was his best season ever. According to ESPN, he allowed just 10 catches on the 28 balls thrown at him.
Being a starting CB in the NFL and having opposing QBs only throw it your way 28 times is amazing. That’s respect, period.
The Raiders would love to have him back in 2011, but it may not be in the cards. They’ve been on quite a spending spree this offseason, extending Richard Seymour, Kamerion Wimbley, and Stanford Routt. They also have to decide what to do about TE Zack Miller, Oakland’s best receiver in 2010.
Could the Raiders re-sign Nnamdi? Sure, but it’s probably a stretch. Teams like Dallas & Washington have a lot of money to spend, and they both have a glaring need at corner.
The Cowboys' pass defense was atrocious in 2011, and Jerry Jones will certainly be looking to the draft and free agency to fill holes. I don't see anyone throwing as much money at Nnamdi as Dallas will.
Prediction: Nnamdi signs with the Dallas Cowboys
