I have been using the Bleacher for a while now, and I love commenting and receiving comments on articles. However, there are certain comments that just irritate me.
I will admit that I have used a couple of these below in the past, but I am doing my best to avoid using them at all.
Here are my top 10 worst type of Bleacher comment.
10. The "non-sports related" insult
E.G: Tony Romo is a homo.
The Bleacher comment is about sports, and if a person has nothing to say connected to sports, then he/she should say nothing at all.
9. The "you need a life" comment
E.G: Get a life, you have too much time on your hands buddy.
There is no reason to insult someone for caring a lot about an issue. It’s a good thing that a person has passion.
8. The "you’re biased" comment
E.G: You just like McNabb because you’re an Eagles fan.
Don’t just accuse a person of being biased because he/she is a fan. Sometimes being a fan makes that person more knowledgeable. Even if he/she actually is being biased, win your arguments in other ways.

7. The "Youtube" comment
E.G: Are you kidding me? Check out this Youtube highlight—www.youtube.com/whatever
Highlights can be fun to watch, but highlights don’t tell the whole story.
6. The simple "praising or bashing" comment
E.G: Tom Brady is amazing, Rex Grossman sucks.
That may be, but so what? That is a boring and simple comment that people should keep to themselves.
5. The disagreeing "article within an article" comment
E.G: None—I don’t have time to write another article.
It is understandable that a person can have a lot to say. But instead of writing a really long comment about why he/she disagrees, he/she should shorten it up or write another article explaining his/her reasons.
4. The "repeated" comment
E.G: The "repeated" comment
We get the fact that someone wants to share his/her opinion, but if it’s been said 10 times, there is no reason to say it an 11th.
3. The "Did you even read the article?" comment
E.G: Ari, I’ve seen you post these types of comments before. (Ya, that’s what I said above.)
Don’t just skim an article and write your comment. Read the article to make sure what you said hasn’t already been addressed in the article.
2. The "you're completely wrong but I’m not going to tell you why" comment
E.G: You don’t know what you're talking about; you’re an idiot.
If a person disagrees, then he/she should explain why? He/she shouldn’t just call someone an idiot.
1. The "putting an article down" comment
E.G: This article is one of the worst articles I’ve ever read.
Not liking someone’s opinion and not liking someone’s article are completely different issues. If a person really doesn’t like someone’s article, then he/she should keep it to his/herself.

Great article.
The very first article I wrote on b/r got a comment that said: "This guy's an idiot, please don't write another article."
Ha! I think that when you get comments like that, you're doing something right.
from 3 months ago
The first comment I received told me I had a bright career as a fiction writer. Lol.
from 3 months ago
Ha! Well at least you got that going for you.
from 3 months ago
Ya my first comment was similiar but with a bit more profanity.
It's kind of interesting that so many people's first comments are so negative.
from 3 months ago
Well the first comment I received, justt to clarify.

Excellent article.

I've had at least three people sign up BR accounts and name themselves "KP Wee is a dumbass" or "KP Wee sucks" or something like that....

Oh lordy....as someone who gets numerous *cough* negative comments, I can relate to this. Usually, I just ignore them because most of these trolls just signed up a couple of minutes ago, found the article on the Internet, and are looking to pick a fight.
At least you don't get the "go knit me me some socks or cook me some brownies, wench" comment. As rotten as it is, I usually laugh.
from 2 months ago
brownies DO sound pretty good right about now...
haha...just kiddin lisa! you know more about college football than a lot of people do. and you make more sense than a lot of those people too.

I like getting some negative comments, as long as they're not totally ridiculous; I received one (in To The Air...Poert: Panthers headed to Tampa) tonight that was kind of a good, negative comment (oxymoron lol). I responded in a fair manner, and without insult. I'm proud of myself lol.

At least no one ever tells me to "drop dead!" How can you tell a ghost to drop dead?
I read a quote one time that said "It is better that people think you're an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt". Sometimes it doesn't take long to figure that their cornbread isn't quite cooked all the way. Just ignore them and write on!

Explain #1 to me. Why should someone keep their mouth shut if they genuinely didn't like your article? If they give you reasons why, doesn't that make their complaint valid?
from 2 months ago
Well you can give your reasons without telling the person his article sucks. Being genuine isn't always the right thing to do. If I thought you were ugly and I was genuine and told you that you were ugly, I'm sure you wouldn't be happy about it. I'm not saying not to disagree and critique.

People won't stop making dumb comments. Its part of any site because people are going to naturally be buffoons. As long as they aren't getting profane, you should just embrace them and thank god you aren't dumb like them.
I've been guilty of number five and I don't see why that is considered a bad comment. It has nothing to do with time constraints for me, I'd rather directly address the person in their own article, because they probably worked hard on it. If I have a lot to say, so be it, but I don't see anything wrong with a lengthy comment. Don't get ridiculous, but if it runs a little long, oh well, I wouldn't mind someone responding to something I write like that. As long as they are responding, that's all that counts really.
I'm also with Eric. I probably wouldn't say to someone I didn't like their article, I would keep that to myself. But some people don't like to operate that way and that's perfectly fine. Nothings wrong with a little tough love. As long as someone backs up their comment and it isn't some quick little "this article sucks!", that's perfectly fine if you ask me.

Ari, I have no idea what you are talking about. I have never seen nor have I ever recieved any of these...
Yeah, just kidding there. I see these all the time. My question is, Why waste your time posting a comment if it is not going to contribute to the article or prompt logical debate and discussion?
Good article.

Enlightening article. I only hope I'm not guilty of making some of these types of comments. I really enjoy reading your articles. Keep up the fine work!

Good article--though the yuptube thiing i have actually used on my articles and it works. I don't use it to tell the story as my article is for that, but I usse it at the end of a paragraph cause sometimes even words can't explain what I am trying to say.

Hahaha i love this article. These comments are so funny. I can't stand when people don't know how to make an argument, so they resort to name-calling or cursing.
