2011 NBA Playoff Prediction: Hawks Will Take the Magic out of the Playoffs
It’s never really a bold prediction when you believe that a No. 5 seed will bounce a No. 4 out of the first round of the playoffs.
But considering the No. 4 seed in this scenario is the Orlando Magic, then it might seem like a bit of a bold pick.
Perhaps not, however, when you consider that Atlanta has owned Orlando since the Magic swept the Hawks out of last year’s playoffs.
The Hawks have taken three of four meetings against the Magic this year, and have the hosts on their heels.
And the history that these two teams have also provides some excitement.
According to a piece in the Orlando Sentinel, things got chippy late last week when Magic guard Jameer Nelson told Bulls star Derrick Rose that they’d see each other in the second round of the playoffs.
This obvious over-looking of Atlanta has not been well received by a Hawks squad that dominated this year’s season series.
Atlanta standout Josh Smith has handled things the right way.
“A lot of their players are already claiming they are already going to make the second round, so that gives us a little added motivation,” Smith told the Sentinel.
I like that the Hawks have confidence against the Magic. I also like the pre-series trash talk. And as s result, I like the Hawks, and I like ‘em in six games.
