Taking on the Community Leader: Joe Burgett

Hi I'm Joe Burgett, and for a month now, I have been hearing that people hate my articles, that I don't know wrestling or what I am talking about that I am a one trick pony, and only do news.

People think I am acting like a know it all, and I maybe am, but that is because well, I have a lot of knowledge about what is going on in wrestling today.

Some of you think that I am writing to make you all look bad, and that is not true, I am writing because I love to, sure you can find allot of my stuff other places, but you can't get my thoughts on it anywhere else but Bleacher Report.

I know wrestling, I know you think I don't, so ask me anything you want, this is take on the leader, technically I am the No. 1 wrestling writer, not to be putting that in anyone's face, its true even though most of you know way more than I do, so please someone send some competition.

Tell your friends to comment me. Tell your mom, dad, grandparent, or uncles and aunts to comment I don't care, this has never been done before, and I want your respect, and I am willing to look stupid to do it.

The rules are simple, you ask a question and I'll answer it, comment on my profile, comment on this article I don't care, I want a piece of Bleacher Report's wrestling writers, there are a lot of you but I'll take on the little ones first.

I will answer any and all questions, if you want a piece of Joe Burgett now is your chance.

No offense but this is the exact reason everyone is against you on here. Don't write articles like this. This isn't news. This isn't opinions. Maybe if you focused more on actual newswriting and not on how much you know and what not noone would care. And also this isn't a place to share personal opinions of you yourself, it's to give opinions on your writings yet all you seem to be worried about is what people think of you. You know your stuff man, you just need to take a step back and think about what you're writing before you do. It also seems like you're only intent on being the #1 writer and the community leader and you're just trying to write as many articles as you can to keep your stats going up. This is a prime example of a piece that is totally irrelevant to the site.

very true there Corey...but Joe, my opinion has already been given to you and I still see Ron as the community leader because he is a Senior writer and has almost double your articles written. Sure, he's been here longer than you and I so that helps. But, dude, how can you call yourself #1 writer when you haven't even garnered a Pick of the Day vote yet? I'm just saying...But I kinda like you Joe, I think whether you were going for it or not, you are the heel of this community.

Yeah, it seem's like you came here with the intent to just sky rocket to the top. Not that that's a bad thing, it just seem's like you're more focused on being the top writer since you've only been here a month and have written the most articles already. Point is, it should be quality over quantity. You may have the most articles written and be the co-community leader but that does not necessarily mean you are the top writer here in terms of knowledge and writing skills.

Writing should not be a "competition". Its an art form. If you have come to the Bleacher Report just to look at your damn picture at the #1 spot then you have serious probelms, becasue thats not what writing should be about. Its about writing good artciles and have intellegnt debates with other wresting fans with diffrent (and educated) opinions. Not about being the "top writer" or the "community leader". You can writer 700 articels, but if there all a bunch of "news" then no one will take any intrest in them. Sometimes I spend a week thinking about writing an artcile before I even sit down to type just so I can think about everything that needs to be involved in the artcile for it to be good. I don't go to other websites and say thats news, and this is how I feel about it. Thats not really writing. Its reviewing more less. I'm not trying to make you look bad or critisis you Joe, but if its happned to you so much that you wrote about it then you might need to change something.

and being informed has nothing to do with anything. Use your own knowledge to write not "insider" websites.

Now it's time from the opinion of the resident " disrespectful cunt" As I have been ceramoniously been dubbed in another article by a reader that will go un-named at this time.

For everyone on here who bitches about Joe's writing or my writing or anyone's.
Until we get payed for doing this it's a labor of love, and you can complain all you want.
Unless I'm getting payed who cares if there's mispelling or you dont like my articles or Joe's articles.
Your not my peers, because your not the professional wrestling media.
Your fan boys like anyone else who sits at home and has access to their computer, yet your all experts on wrestling and the only thing you can call anyone to task on is they dont spell correctly or all they do is write about breaking news from other sites.
So Joe is blamed for writing articles about breaking news that is all over the net.
I'm attacked because all i write about is editorials about stuff that makes you think and stuff that;'s outside the box.
Stuff that questions things about wrestling.
I've written humor and next thing you know your all comedy critics.
Still dont care what any of you say Batista looks like he should come out of the closet with those tight jeans of his.
    So you know what?
My advice to Joe is stop caring whay anyone thinks.
If you write because you love wrestling, then continue to do so. Do it because of your love for writing and wrestling.
It's obvious people are reading your articles.
They can pretend they are ignoring it but view the clicks and you'll know better.
I've been called all kinds of names, and been told no matter what I write it's rediculous, I dont know what I'm talking about, I cant spell either, i'm disrespectful, etc etc.
But the bottom line, The Batista article got over 400 reads
The article about WWE posibly being predjudice towards asian wrestlers got over 700 reads.
I'm not trying to score points, but the fact of the matter is if people dont like what i write or what Joe writes, dont read it.
I differ because I'm telling anyone and everyone , I dont care if you like me or not.
I not writing to please any of you.
I write to write about wrestling and to write about stuff that no one else bothers to write or to think of.
If the fanboys dont like my writing then oh well.
Until you get jobs writing for WWE magazine or Pro Wrestling Illustrated or The Wrester, then your not an expert or pro to be critizing anyone.
If Joe is The NWO Hulk Hogan of wrestling and leader then I am Kevin Nash and Brian Pillman combined.
I dont aspire to be leader, I dont aspire to be loved by my peers.
But the fact of the matter is if you either love or hate me then I'm doing my job.
If you wont love me then I hope you all hate me.
Because if I'm hated and all my articles are so controversial and get so many angry people on here responded which they do then it's obvious i'm doing something right.

If you all want to make the rules and think your journalist and your superior then great, but no one is reading your articles.
Your all the Glaciers, Steve Blackman's, Damian Demento's, Avatar's, Sultans, Bastian Boogers, Kurgan's, Bezerker's, Doink Number 2's, Dean Malenko's, Beverly Brothers, of the online wrestling writing community.

who called you a disrespectful cunt? that is harsh. wow. Ronnie, I have to say that I fell in love with your writing because of the Batista/jeans piece. Still funny sh*t... I've already told joe that I read his articles every day. I am going to read any piece I can get my mouse on because I love to read and hope to learn something new... But just like I said, this is a wrestling community and Joe appears to have become the top heel in this community. That shouldn't be looked at as a bad thing. I appreciate a good debate and whether I agree with someone or not (I usually disagree with Joe) I've told him this and criticism and comments I feel only make this stuff better. Of course it has to be constructive criticism which I try to always do (tho I may not always succeed in doing so). We don't get paid doing this but we do this for the passion of writing and the passion for wrestling (or I hope that's why we do this). I don't care if I get to be community leader, I never came here for that. I just wanted to give my thoughts on wrestling and see other's thoughts. I only want to see people read my stuff and like/hate it. The Wrestling/MLB piece I did got over 8,000 reads in 2 days and I was happy as all hell for that. Whether the comments were praise or negative I could care less. People read it, that's what counts.

      Ronnie,
I actually like your writing a bit. The main complaint about Joe is that he isn't writing. He's essentially copying and pasting everything. He only wants to be #1 to say he's #1. He has not written one quality article since joining. That's where the problems lay. And his spouting off about being #1 for a reason is bullshit. He's #1 because he pumps out 40 articles a day.

And Joe, I'll take you up on your knowledge. Hell, I'll even start you off with an easy one: Who is the only wrestler/manager/performer to appear on Raw and Nitro at the same time? (If you miss this, the game is over as this is easy).

    I agree with you.
I'd also like to add whoever is on my fans list and visa versa I wasnt including them in any of my rant just now.
As far as the "disrespectful little cunt" line
It was from some guy named Matt.
Dont even know who he is.
It's under the "How to fix wrestling in 365 days" article.
And it's all because I suggested if Vince could he would clone all the dead wrestlers and make a supercard.
I was joking, but after being attacked I responded and proved why if WWE could they probably would clone all the late stars.

      Hey Ronnie
My problem is not his articles it is his attitude when you act like you are perfect and we are all crap you should be perfect I guess.
This guy is annoying and he just gets on my nerves with his constant "I am #1" crap.
      That's all bro

i want the facts in stories to be facts, not hopes or opinions...

if you are writing an opinion piece then it should be labeled as such.

"ALL WWE SHOWS GOING LIVE" is simply not true and should not be reported as fact and as a news story. perhaps "ALL WWE SHOWS GOING LIVE??" would be more appropriate and should be listed as an opinion piece.

First of I wite about everythingI can find, and whether ou can find it on wwrestling truth, prowrestling.com, or anywhere I still write about it. And then give my opinions on it, do you guys realize that the more comments you give me, the better my articles look, I give attractice headlines so people like yourself can look on them and say well lets see what he found this time, and you click on it anyway, and dude looks like you did it too. My plan usually works, I average at least 200 reads for every article, and you know what since I put out so much of them, they are all online, under wrestling, go to google, my stuf is on the first page in wrestling. I didn't do this to be #1, it was just a bonus, I wrote it to inform people, I never said I was a know it all, I said I am the most informed, mainly because I go to every site imaginable and look at different articles, to my doubters, I do write stuff that is not copy/paste, and even when I ge an article from another site, I write my opinion on it, as for the all shows going live article, it was just like all my ohers, not made up, just found, and then I wrote my opinion on it.

An article which well lets face it still got read, because of the title

Oh hey this is to Ryan, it was two people who were on RAW and Nitro at the same. Shane and Vince McMahon, Vince and Shane are both promoters, Vince is the better of the two, both are wrestlers, and both are performers, remeber the invasion in 2001, it was in March, remember, I do.

    Anything else????

      NO.

Vince bought out WCW, ending its existance and does not count.

Rick Rude is the only to do so, appearing on a pre-taped Raw with stubble, clean-shaven on Nitro bashing HBK and the WWF.

And even more technically, Vince did not. He didn't appear at Nitro. Video screen doesn't count, but like I said, I didn't accept Shane/Vince because WCW was officially WWF property at that point. Just like the Dudley's WCW tag title reigns don't hold the same merit as their NWA/TNA & WWF tag title runs.

First off you never....eevr said video screens did not count and Shane owned WCW for the short while of the invasion, Vince did not, the ECW thing was just an add on really, and both were still in show which means although the last broadcast of Nitro it was till broadcased and effective from the end of Nitro that night making it that Vince and Shane were bith on WCW Nitro and WWE RAW at the same time in the same night. And dude, you just read the first line of something? Wow that explains alot, how dio you know if someone writes a good article if all you read is the first line?

Realy I could get a great article out and you would never know it considering all you'd do is read one line of it, how is anyone supposed to prove anything to you if you don't ever read dude? That is a key for being able to write isn't it?

Because I've seen your writing before, why should I believe it's changed?

As for the answer, I'll give you that and no, Shane never owned WCW. It was Kayfabe dude. I'm talking in reality, meaning that while WCW and WWF were both operational, Rick Rude was the only one to appear on both shows on the same night while they were separate entities.

And you can't write. Your english composition skills are terrible, your spelling is shaky and you tend to ask a lot of rhetorical questions. Your "writing" is garbage.

Ok folks, lets stop this. Only 75 reads and this thing has gotten 22 comments, that's a hell of a ratio. I read all the comments (including mine) and they are mostly bashing the guy. Now, I am in no way a fan of Joe's and I say what I say to challenge him to be better because he can. You are a journalism major Joe, so take pride in your work. We all make mistakes in our writing but most of your mistakes are uncalled for. Take a minute and edit your own pieces because that's what a real journalist would do (whether we get paid or not).

Listen, for all the anti-Joes just take Joe up on the competition. Joe set it up and do the damn thing. I am really interested to see how things play out.

Now, I defended you up there joe but now I have to say this. Your response to Ryan's question just made me feel bad for defending you. "Shane owned WCW for the short while," did you really say that? You do know that Vince bought WCW and the whole Shane owning it and Stephanie owning ECW was an angle right?

I can answer these off the top of my head If I may.
      1 Terry Funk
      2 Sabu
      3 Steve Corino
      4 Raven
Now whether or not they were "world titles at the time is open to debate. the titles were stripped of their staus at different times.
By the way does Shane Douglas count? Since he technically did "win" the NWA Title before tossing at Corluzzo's feet.

I would say yes on Douglas. Just as Chris Benoit's WCW World Title win should count (and I believe it is officially recognized by the WWE now or was before last year's incident)

And I apparently missed another in Steve Corino. I fell out of wrestling in 2000 and didn't get back on board until 2004 so I never knew about Corino's reign as NWA World Champ, though it was in a down time for the NWA.

Yeah really, you're grammar is horrible no offense. And I don't wanna hear "oh who cares we aren't getting paid to do this", yeah so what? If you aspire to be a journalist (which you do according to your bio) then you should at least take the time to edit your articles or practice grammar/sentence structure. I know noone is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, but you make some very very noticeable mistakes that make it seem like you rush your articles and don't revise them at all after you write them. And to everyone who want's to cause drama and use "foul" language on here it's really inappropriate as this is a news community where many people come for news and to practice newswriting. I take this site seriously because you can use it as a reference for a career in journalism if you wanted to, and I just don't see how you can be an aspiring journalist and act unprofessionally on here. Just my two cents regarding all the recent drama in the wrestling section.

I have stopped caring, I WILL write what I want on here when I want it now. Not trying to be out there, but these guys really get on my nerves, and just for posting news from other places, while giving my opinuions on that peice of news. Have these guys ever read a newspaper, just because it is broken on ESPN, doesn't mean it can't be in the New York Times right? Ok so they have apparently got the wrong idea of things around herre, even the man himself Zander puts stuff on the bleacher report help list saying A-ROd uses HGH is a good topic for an article to get reads in rather than derrik burgess is an above average tackler. Its news still isn't it. I guess I had to learn no matter what they say,. it is still ok to write what I want, and I am tried of having to prove myself to them

    Shane,

I agree that Kimbo is a joke. So is EliteXC as a whole. I'm more a UFC guy myself. And you may want to check your facts. I'm pretty sure that the UFC does better PPV numbers than boxing AND fake pro soap opera wrestling.

    Ross,

Calm down, bro. You sound like Ric Flair after he lost to Triple H in the steal cage death match.

Joe's response to me on the question posed and my doubting of his knowledge and "skills":

"oh yeah your question although I have turned over a new leaf around here I will attempt to answer it, I wrote that article aout of anger, but still I have nop idea what he answer is but I will guess though.
    I'll say:
    Bam Bam Bigelow
    Junkyard Dog
    Jerry Lawler
And again they all maybe wrong, but thank you for the opportunity to show I at least know about these three men a little. It was a hard question, but I am the most informed of today's news, that is why I put "I am the most informed" on my profile. Not that I know everything in wrestling history, all I want is to be respected, even if you hate my articles, but I must ask, although a stroy breaks on ESPN, is it ok to post it in the New York Times a day later? If so well I think I have made my point"

Before I give you the answers (and you're so far off, it's ridiculous) I'd like to address that last part. There's a difference between mass media outlets reporting news that's being covered by others and you doing the same on BR.

In most cases, the media at least attempts to put a spin on it (their own opinions) or tries to educate the reader about how or why that happened. You, however, just regurgitate what you read. No opinion or information other than what someone else said. So why would I go to you for these things when I can go to someone with a track record and spelling skills?

As for the question: JYD never wrestled in ECW. Lawler only made spordadic appearances feuding with the company. Only Bam Bam worked there officially.

The answers (and I was surprised that I forgot #4): Terry Funk, Sabu, Shane Douglas and Raven. Interesting note: Douglas' reign as NWA champion was one of the more brief ones. He won the title in a tournament final against 2 Cold Scorpio and proceeded to give his infamous speech about the NWA being dead. He threw down the NWA World Title and declared himself the ECW champ.

So you're not informed. You just think you are. What you are is a good copy-and-paster.

Ryan you said one thing true in that comment, so I'll give you that. The true thing was the answer obviously, and everything else is false, I'll tell you this again and again if I have to. I write about news, yes, I do, you caught me, but when I write about that piece of news, I write my opinion in it, I dod go to sites and lookat articles, and one writer said it best, If I stop writing the news, someone else will, and you'll bash him, people on this site are afraid to write articles about news, only because of the kinds of responses they see me get.

Many people write news on here, I'm just the only one o the wrestling section, Stephen Johnson, who writes news aswell, has not heard a word of criticism, why? because you have nothing against him. For some reason you and many others around here, do not care that I write news, no. Its deeper than that isn't it.

You don't care to admit it do you? I bet its the fact that I write so much that it gets more reads than alot of people's articles, I bet that its the fact I get many comments like the 4o something I have on this article alone. YOu want me gone, because once I leave, you'll be back on top again.

I don't care that I am #1, like many people think I do. I do enjoy it though, and I rose to the top in 28 days because of it. And its not the quantity I wrote about that did it. Its that people read and commented on the articles.

I don't write news all the time, my first one that I ever wrote was an editorial. not news, that got 137 reads, amybe more by now though but I saw everyone on the standings and said I wanted to be recognized up there.

I am not the best writer, I know that much is true, but I know how to catch people's attention, which it seems as if I have done from you more times than not, isn't that right Ryan?

like you said where? all the do is mock me, and for what because I had better ideas for writing, I am the most informed but on today's news and what not, I don't know stuff from the beginning of wresting, and although I wasn't alive I still know a few things that they do too. They think because I'm young I have no idea what I'm talking about, I think its jelousl, which they will never admit
