Last night, as the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings battled through an exciting overtime game, Pavelski got the shot he needed. He came into the slot after a perfect pass and fired it right by Jonathan Quick for the big win.
The Sharks are a team that has struggled to live up to expectations in the postseason in past years, and with Antti Niemi, the goaltender from last year's Chicago team that hoisted the cup, this could be the year that this team makes it to the Stanley Cup Finals.
If San Jose can get the type of performance it got from Niemi last night, there's no reason this team can't make a deep playoff run, especially considering all of the offensive firepower on the roster.
As we saw last night, it's not going to be easy and the Sharks are going to have to grind out wins against a very scrappy and resilient Los Angeles team.
The Sharks have to get out in space like they did last night. If San Jose can do that, then this is a team that will be hard to beat.
In the past, this team has let a lot of people down. However, with all of the focus on Vancouver in the Western Conference, it could be just the thing the Sharks need to stay within themselves and play championship-caliber hockey.
