LSU vs. Mississippi State Highlights

Unlike two other SEC opponents, the LSU Tigers avioded an upset, beating Mississippi State 34-24. However, Florida and Georgia weren’t so lucky. Florida was upset by Ole Miss and Georgia was upset by Alabama.

Charles Scott rushed 27 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Jarrett Lee passed for two touchdowns. Andrew Hatch did not play.  Brandon LaFell was the Tigers’ leading receiver with seven catches for 100 yards. He was on his way to scoring a touchdown, but fumbled at the 1 yard line and tight end Richard Dixon recovered the ball and received credit for the touchdown.

The upsets of Florida, Georgia, and also USC (who was beat by Oregon State) helped to move the Tigers up in the rankings. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Tigers jumped up to #2, in the Associated Press poll, the Tigers were ranked at #3 (see polls below).

Jarrett Lee was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

LSU meets Florida next Saturday in Gainesville.
