Brock Lesnar vs. JDS: TUF 13 on Spike TV—Len Bentley vs. Ryan McGillivray, Rd. 1
Alright, they’re off and running, no touching of the gloves as Bentley comes out swinging. McGillivray answers and it looks like we’re gonna get a standup war...until Len stuns Ryan with a nice left hook that sends the latter to the canvas.
Team Lesnar’s entrant pounces on his dazed opponent and quickly takes full mount, I’d say that’s a bad start for Team JDS considering it all happened in about 30 seconds. Bentley tries to work some ground ‘n’ pound, but McGillivray rolls and gives up his back instead.
At dos Santos urgings, Ryan realizes his precarious position and writhes into a safer one, eventually clasping Bentley’s right leg and maneuvering back into full guard (eating some elbows on the way). Unfortunately, there are still three minutes left and Len wants to spend them standing.
Ryan scrambles to his feet and the leather starts flying, as well as a kick from Len. Team JDS’s guy lands a straight left and follows it with a nice left hook. Bentley makes a super-scary face to mock the score, which inevitably means it hurt.
They trade lots of nothing for about 60 seconds before Ryan hits with a left to the body and chases it with an overhand right that snaps Bentley’s head back. The Canuck is obviously gaining confidence in there and...yeehaw!
A lunging left hook from McGillivray puts Bentley on his derriere with two minutes left in a scintillating opening five minutes. Ryan dives onto his opponent to do some more damage, but Len locks him up and nothing of much significance lands.
Team Lesnar’s No. 1 rolls into a beautiful armbar attempt and it’s locked in DEEP, but McGillivray shows he’s got heart to back up the skills and defends it successfully. Now, Ryan’s working what looks like an anaconda choke as the horn ends a stellar round for both.
I’ll give it to McGillivray for the strong finish and the equalizing knockdown. Tough to call, though, could go either way without complaint.
