Barry Bonds Awaits His Fate As the Jury Deliberates in His Perjury Trial
Only in the Barry Bonds trial, could something like this happen.
ESPN's Mark Fainaru-Wada has been tweeting from the courtroom, where Bonds was found guilty of obstruction of justice in his perjury trial.
The only problem is that mass confusion has broke out. It became apparent that the jury had not decided and there was rumors that there might have been a deadlock on the jury. Eventually, the judge had enough of the confusion and brought the jury out.
According to Fainaru-Wada, the foreman said they reached a verdict on one count, but couldn't on the rest. The foreman also said there was no value to continue deliberating and the jury was sent back in as the parties figured out how to proceed.
The defense quickly responded that we should hear the verdict and a mistrial should be granted on the other counts. The government agreed and before the jury announced its conclusion, for some reason the judge left the courtroom and didn't return for over 10 minutes before we finally got the guilty verdict. I wouldn't believe it if he wasn't reporting it to be honest.
What I want to know is, how can these people not tell that Bonds lied about steroid use? I mean, all you have to do is look at pictures of the man to figure out that he did something to his body to create the bloated slugger we see today.
I'm baffled that with all of the evidence that jury saw, that it couldn't get Bonds for more charges. It just goes to show you that if you have money, you can get your way out of any trouble.
Now that this happened, I'd be shocked if the government continued to try and get Bonds after this circus.
