I think Save Newcastle is interesting, and hope they manage to put it to action if for no other reason than to see how football reacts. It’s a far less idealistic, wide-eyed proposal than the whole Ebbsfleet debacle and has proven to work in Spain with clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid. Every football fan is familiar with the presidential campaigns because they’re the nutters you’ve never heard of who suddenly start talking about buying Cristiano Ronaldo every few years.

But as with any good idea, success depends on proper execution and while the people behind Save Newcastle sound like they are successful in their professional lives the fact that the website is wraught with spelling errors and has the visual design that rivals only the most basic blog templates makes me wary. Perception is reality, and if I was going to hand over cash to back some effort to buy a football club I would certainly have a little more faith in them if they had a decent website. If they can’t get that right, then what the heck are they going to do with the rest of the club?
I wish I could fast forward to a time where Newcastle has been bought by the fans, they elect a president, and he turns out to be utter wank. Will fans turn on themselves if it’s their fault?
