New Orleans Saints Draft: Saints could use help at safety:
Colorado corner Jimmy Smith's stock is all over the place. One week, he's a top 15 pick. The next week he's barely hanging on to first-round status. Smith is a great talent with good size (6'2" 215 pounds) at corner.
But questions about his character and ball skills have teams skeptical of his high ratings. The ball skill concerns have some teams thinking of Smith as a corner.
New Orleans met with Smith this past weekend, reports Aaron Wilson of National Football Post. They likely looked into his past that was checkered by an alcohol charge his freshman year at Colorado. Smith has admitted to poor judgment in the situation.
As for the safety/corner dilemma, maybe shout that be looked at as a strength? If Smith has already played corner well and projects better as a safety in some people's eyes, he could be a versatile reserve.
Smith would be a great value for New Orleans at 24th overall.
