2011 NFL Mock Draft: Is it Possible That Ryan Mallett Sneaks Out of the Second Round

I'll first say that I think Ryan Mallett might be the best thrower of the football in this draft. He has a huge arm, can make any throw and generally displays good mechanics.

However, that doesn't mean he has to be a second round pick. Mallett has some serious red flags that should keep him out of the top 64 picks.

The drug concerns are especially baffling, but his on-field play has some holes too.

Teams don't like his athleticism in or out of the pocket, his play late in games and his penchant for throwing interceptions.

In today's NFL, the first of those flags is the most troubling. You need to be able to move in the pocket, and Mallett is a nothing more than a statue once he drops back. He's going to get hit a lot in the NFL.

He's still worthy of a day two pick, but don't be surprised if he falls out of the second round.
