Pittsburgh Steelers May Need Cornerback, but Jimmy Smith Not Who They Are Looking For
The Pittsburgh Steelers need to find a cornerback in the first couple rounds. How big their need is at that position is up for debate, but there's no doubt that there's enough of a need that any cornerback available then is at least being looked at.
One cornerback who has fallen down to the end of the first round is Colorado's Jimmy Smith. One of the bigger cornerbacks at 6'2, his attitude has caused him to fall in the ranks. Could the Steelers be considering drafting him?
In short, no. Yes, Jimmy Smith is a tall playmaker, and would actually be able to block out some receivers. However, there's defnitely a chance that receivers will outrun him at the pro level, especially once the speed he does have starts to fade.
His attitude is a major red flag for a team like the Steelers. He had underage drinking charges from Colorado, and he does not seem to have a good head on his shoulders. There's a fine line between tough and troubling, and Smith seems to be the latter.
If Smith is somehow available at number 31, maybe the Steelers can make a trade happen, then they can grab Aaron Williams or another talent with a later pick.
