Carolina Panthers Select Cam Newton with the No. 1 Overall Pick
The Carolina Panthers jumped to select Jimmy Clausen in the second round of the 2010 draft, but the new coaching regime will rush to the podium and bring in Auburn quarterback, Cam Newton.
In his one year as a starter for the Auburn Tigers, Newton won the Heisman Trophy, led his team to a BCS National Championship victory, while passing for 30 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, throwing for 2,854 yards.
His quickness and athleticism allowed him to gain another 1,473 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground.
The Panthers already have a solid running attack with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, along with wide receivers Steve Smith and second year man, Brandon LaFell. They also added tight end Jeremy Shockey, a quarterback's best friend, which could ease his transition from the spread offense he ran at Auburn, to the pro-style, run first attack of the Carolina Panthers
