Chicago Blackhawks Set Opening Day Roster

Michael WagnerSenior Analyst IOctober 7, 2008

The Chicago Blackhawks have finalized their roster to start the 2008-09 season.

There were a few surprises from the roster cuts, including the assigning of Cam Barker and Antii Niemi to the AHL. Here is the final roster which includes 13 forwards, eight defensemen (including James Wisniewksi) and two goaltenders:

28 Craig Adams
36 Dave Bolland
37 Adam Burish
33 Dustin Byfuglien
55 Ben Eager
19 Jonathan Toews "C"
88 Patrick Kane
10 Patrick Sharp
11 Jack Skille
46 Colin Fraser
24 Martin Havlat
16 Andrew Ladd
32 Kris Veersteg

2 Duncan Keith
7 Brent Seabrook
51 Brain Campbell
5 Brent Sopel
4 Niklas Hjalmarsson
8 Matt Walker
43 James Wisniewski
6 Jordan Hendry

38 Nikolai Khabibulin
39 Christobal Huet

The forward lines seem to be set in stone, but it is possible that Cam Barker will likely be back with the NHL club in a few weeks.

The real interesting thing about the Blackhawks' roster is that Nikolai Khabibulin is still here.  If he is not moved within the next few days the 'Hawks will enter the season with a backup goalie who has seen no preseason action.

These next few days will be interesting, but hockey is back in full swing once again!
