Cleveland Browns may eye Delaware Free-Faller Pat Devlin for QB Depth
If there's one thing that is likely to happen on a Mike Holmgren team, it's that a quarterback will be drafted late. It's not a shot against Colt McCoy, just like it's not a shot against Brett Favre; it's simply an insurance situation, as well as finding a potential diamond in the rough situation.
Who could be someone the Browns draft? One possibility is someone who has fallen further than anyone in the draft on the offseason, Delaware's Pat Devlin, who could be available for the Browns in the fifth round, as the Browns have seem him work out.
Devlin has questionable strength and accuracy, which is naturally a red flag for any quarterback. Besides that, even when he worked with his own receivers he seemed to struggle with having completed passes.
He seems like he has a good head on his shoulders, which is good, but it's clear from watching film of him that he has work to do to be a viable quarterback in the NFL.
As a result, a selection from the Browns could happen. There would be no quarterback controversy since no one expects him to start, and if he plays well in an injury situation, he could always be traded for players or picks. If he never takes a snap in the NFL, no harm done since it was a day three pick.
