Preseason College Football Rankings 2011: Teams That Will Tumble After Week One
Preseason college football rankings are a funny thing. By the end of the season they generally look nothing like they did in the preseason. Here are three teams that will fall in the rankings after their first game.
This one should seem pretty obvious. Either LSU or Oregon has to lose, and with the current drama surrounding the LSU football program it looks like Oregon could make this game an easy win.
Even before LSU's internal problems with a bar fight this was going to be a tough game to start the year. Now they'll be missing their starting quarterback and one of their linebackers for the game.
LSU will likely lose a lot of votes after they lose to Oregon when you factor in their current turmoil. They might be lucky to remain in the top 15 after dropping this game.
I don't expect Boise State to lose to Georgia. I'd be shocked if they did.
However, I do think Boise State won't crush Georgia like the No. 5 ranked team in the country should to an unranked team.
When Boise State fails to stomp Georgia teams like Florida State and Stanford will be waiting there to jump them. The voters always seem to be looking for a reason to drop Boise State in the polls, and a tight victory over Georgia would give them just that.
Every year it seems like one of the top ranked teams loses a game to an underrated opinion.
The two teams that I think are facing possible upsets are South Carolina against East Carolina, and Texas A&M against SMU.
In this scenario I'm going with South Carolina.
South Carolina is the kind of team that beats Alabama one week and then loses to Kentucky the next. I'm betting that they have a mental lapse to begin their season in 2011 and will suffer in the polls because of it.
