Preseason College Football Rankings 2011: Predicting Where Top 3 Will Finish
The USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll is already out, and this weekend the preseason AP Poll will be released. For this article we'll focus on the top three of the Coaches Poll, but the chances of the teams being any different in the AP Poll are very slim.
The Oklahoma Sooners are the clear favorites this season with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Oregon Ducks right behind them.
All three are capable of winning the BCS National Championship this season, but first they will have to get through their tough divisions.
Here are my predictions are how the top three teams will fare in 2011.
No. 1 — Oklahoma Sooners
The consensus No. 1 in the Coaches Poll should be the top team in the AP Poll as well. Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles will connect often this season helping the Sooners win the Big 12 for the fifth time in the last six years.
The Sooners biggest problem heading into the 2011 season is who will step up in the run game. There will be a platoon of Roy Finch, Brennan Clay and Brandon Williams.
Oklahoma will go undefeated in 2011 and be crowned National Champions.
No. 2 — Alabama Crimson Tide
The Crimson Tide have to decide on a starting quarterback, but with a very sound defense and Trent Richardson in the backfield this team will go far in 2011.
Alabama's defense will carry them until either A.J. McCarron or Phillip Sims get's comfortable under center. Richardson will lead the SEC in rushing, and help the Crimson Tide win not just the division by also the conference.
Unfortunately the Crimson Tide will slip up at least once this season and play in the Sugar Bowl, where they will of course dominate either a Big East school or a non automatic qualifier.
No. 3 — Oregon Ducks
The Ducks will have no problem winning the first ever Pac-12 Championship, and it's all because of Darron Thomas and LaMichael James. Oregon did lose key players on offense, but these two are so explosive they will lead the Ducks to an undefeated season.
James will lead the nation in rushing once again, but he will fall short in the Heisman race. The Ducks will play in the National Championship game for the second year in a row, but fall to the Sooners.
