Brock Lesnar vs. JDS: TUF 13 on Spike TV—Javier Torres vs. Chris Cope, Rd. 1
Hate to be the pragmatic spoiler here, but the time left seems to indicate we’re gonna get three rounds from these two. Let’s hope they’re good ones.
Cope and Torres come out, touch gloves and then Javier starts patting his face as if to wake himself up; probably would’ve done that before leaving my corner, but to each his own. The feeling out process gives way to a clinch against the fence with El Chunty Boy in control of the position.
Cope isn’t getting overwhelmed, though. He’s firing knees and wrap-around shots to Torres’ head before managing to reverse the clinch and free himself. Javier is doing quite a bit of posturing and making some really impressive faces, but he’s not backing it up thus far.
My whammy works perfectly as El Chunty Boy scores the first major points of the round with a nice takedown, but he can’t keep Cope on the ground so it amounts to little. Big overhand right lands for the Mexican fighter, but it only seems to motivate Cope as he retaliates with a strike of his own.
Chris is game; he clinches and the pair pirouettes as Cope tries to secure a takedown of his own, but his lack of experience/training is beginning to take its toll. He looks winded, he’s bleeding from under his left eye and getting a wild.
A couple big knees to the body score for Javier as the blood starts to run in earnest from Cope’s cheek. Easy 10-9 for Team JDS (Torres).
