Bill Belichick, the greatest coach in NFL history, is also known as one of the very best talent evaluators in today’s NFL. You can rest assured that the mastermind is carefully analyzing every single player to find the perfect prospects for his extraordinary perennial Super Bowl journey.
After being bumped in the playoffs for two straight seasons without a single win, expect Belichick to pull out all of the stops in order to secure a playoff appearance, playoff victory and Super Bowl appearance.
The team last won when they had a powerful workhorse running back they could rely on in Corey Dillon. BenJarvus Green-Ellis will most likely be let go—does that mean the Patriots are eying a running back early in the draft like Alabama’s Mark Ingram? Or is there another runner on Belichick’s diabolical mind?
Last week we discussed several possibilities for the Patriots, including trading down to acquire more selections in this year’s draft and next year’s draft. We took note of some intriguing prospects visiting New England, such as Alabama’s Greg McElroy, since the Patriots have young trade pieces heading into the draft.
This week, we’re going to dive deeper into this list and analyze what Belichick and the Patriots could be thinking.
Arguably the most difficult team to mock for given his history, analysts are absolutely torn on which way the Patriots will mostly go—defense or offense. News is constantly leaking out of New England, but it remains to be seen what is smoke and what is truth—given Belichick’s history of toying with the league as much as possible, can we actually believe anything that is said out of New England? Everybody’s guess is as good as the next persons.
Let’s see what we can dig up with the draft quickly approaching.
