NFL Draft 2011: Who Is Baltimore Looking at with 26th Pick, According to B/R?
Baltimore Ravens Have Many Options With Different Mocks Going Different Directions
The Baltimore Ravens do not yet know who they will be taking with the 26th overall pick, at least I presume they don't. Seeing as how the experts have the Ravens selecting all sorts of different talent with their first pick, I would be shocked if they did know.
Even here on Bleacher Report, the latest mock drafts have different selection by the Ravens in nearly every mock. Ryan Rudnansky has them going with Jimmy Smith, saying:
"Jimmy Smith is essentially the perfect player for the Baltimore Ravens: a outstanding athlete with star potential who has character concerns. As Rang points out, Ozzie Newsome is well-known for developing players that have an edge to them."
I agree with the first part, namely that he is a great athlete with great talent, but the character concerns are a bit troubling. Even discounting that, I have reservations that Smith's skill set fits into the Ravens' secondary, although this selection would not surprise me, as it is a consensus pick from the experts.
Eric Bowman has the Ravens taking Smith as well, and is not concerns about any character issues, noting, "Ray Lewis is the man in charge for Baltimore. He'll make sure Smith is put in his place."
Those are the only two similarities around, though. Brian Murtaugh has them going with offensive tackle Derek Sherrod, saying:
While I do agree that the Ravens need help there, I'm not big on Sherrod, at least with a first-round pick. The Ravens are also more likely to go with defense with their first pick, though they have used these picks on tackles before.
Wes O'Donnell has the Ravens going with Muhammad Wilkerson, a move that surprised me because the front seven is not really a position of need. Nonetheless, his rationale makes sense:
"The secondary is easily their biggest weakness and they could really use some talent there but I think they'll rely on their scouts to find them better value in a later round. Temple's Muhammad Wilkerson is one of the lesser known forces in this draft but would be an ideal fit for the Ravens defensive front."
Whoever Baltimore wants to take, they clearly have a lot of options. Torrey Smith and other cornerbacks can be added to those three as well.
