Does an undefeated streak really define someone’s career?
Is it sad that the Undertaker is known more for the way he performs in one event, than the way he has performed for the last two decades?
The Undertaker, whether you choose to suspend disbelief and pretend wrestling is real or know that it’s scripted, doesn’t want to lose.
It’s what his legacy is.
If Joe Montana could have played in 12 more Super Bowls, the story would have become about his streak of Super Bowls without an interception, forgetting for a second that he was able to get there at all.
Sure, WWE is scripted entertainment, but that doesn’t make getting to WrestleMania any less of an honor. It’s the show saved for the best and the brightest, and the most relevant men and women in the field.
The streak isn’t about winning. It’s about the fact that for the last 19 WrestleManias he’s mattered. He’s been the top guy or one of the top guys.
But he has to spend all year working to that point. He’s done it.
Regardless of the outcome, Undertaker’s streak will still be in tact.
It just depends on how you look at it.
