WWE WrestleMania 27 Predictions: The Grandest Stage of Them All Is Upon Us

Jeff Langridge@@JeffLangridge1Correspondent IIIApril 3, 2011

We are only 10 hours away from the biggest pay-per-view of the year. The Show of Shows. WrestleMania 27.

This year’s ‘Mania has a chance to be one of the best ever, with multiple matches that could steal the show. Not to mention what will happen with The Rock’s involvement and his inevitable confrontation with John Cena.

I’m going to get straight to the predictions.

United States Championship

 Sheamus (c) vs. Daniel Bryan

One of two matches that could potentially start off the show. If given time this match could be an early show-stealer, but then again every Daniel Bryan match has the chance to be.

After weeks of being pushed down the ladder of contention, Sheamus is actually in a match at ‘Mania, something that would have not happened if he continued to be held down.

Even with the recent push, I don’t believe Sheamus is walking out with the title, especially if it’s the first match of the show.

MY PICK: Daniel Bryan

Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes

Another potential show-stealer, Mysterio is once again in a match where his opponent wants to unmask him.

While most people thought that Ted Dibiase would be the Legacy member that would hit stardom first, Cody Rhodes is closer than any of us thought he would be. Mysterio handpicking him for a match at WrestleMania definitely means something.

Mysterio believes that Rhodes is a future star and I expect him to win the Intercontinental Championship at some point this year on his way to the World Heavyweight Championship maybe a year or two from now.

MY PICK: Cody Rhodes

Big Show, Kane, Vladimir Kozlov and Santino Marella vs. The Corre

While this appears to be a throwaway match, the people in the match could make it a good match. Big Show always has fun at WrestleMania and Santino is a good worker in his first WrestleMania so he’ll want to perform well.

Also in their first ‘Mania are every member of the Corre. Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel have the most to gain from this match and need to prove themselves on the big stage.

MY PICK: The Corre

Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Michael Cole with Jack Swagger

Special Guest Referee: Stone Cold Steve Austin

I explained this a lot in an earlier article. There is no way Cole is winning this match. Expect Cole, Swagger and, quite possibly, JBL to eat Stunners.

MY PICK: Jerry “The King” Lawler

John Morrison, Trish Stratus and Snooki vs. Dolph Ziggler, Michelle McCool and Layla

Hmm…I wonder who’s winning this match. I’m pretty sure celebrities are undefeated at WrestleMania so I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the faces are winning this match.

I could see Awesome Kong finally making her debut, laying waste to Morrison and Stratus when Snooki leaves the ring. That would hopefully lead to a match between Kong and Stratus at Extreme Rules.

MY PICK: John Morrison, Trish Stratus and Snooki

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk

When this match was first announced I was really looking forward to it, but as the weeks have passed, I have lost interest in this match.

If the New Nexus had been part of this match, Randy Orton winning would be considered an “overcoming the odds” victory. With no one at ringside, it will not and will most likely result in Punk winning.

This could be another match of the night considering it will most likely be given lots of time.

World Heavyweight Championship

Edge(c) vs. Alberto Del Rio

Anyone in their right minds knows that Del Rio is coming out with the title. What most of us are wondering is how it will happen. Will Christian turn heel and cost his best friend the championship? Will it be an accident that causes Edge to lose? Or will Del Rio actually do it on his own?

MY PICK: Alberto Del Rio

The Streak

 Triple H vs. Undertaker

This match was going to be good before Shawn Michaels got involved. Now that he might very well have an impact on the match, it has gotten much better.

The build-up to this match has been tremendous, and the fact that there has been no contact between them has improved the anticipation of the match. Hopefully, both of them shake off their combined ring rust early and give us a good match.

I expect this match to be given at least half-an-hour, so they will be given every shot to match what Taker and Michaels did the last two years, although it’s not expected to. We’re going to see pedigrees, chokeslams, spinebusters and tombstones kicked out of, just like last year.

All that and we all know who’s going to win.

MY PICK: Undertaker

WWE Championship

 The Miz(c) vs. John Cena

What a difference two years makes. In 2008, Miz was just a cocky mid-carder calling out an “injured” John Cena and claiming he was 5-0 against Cena. Cena then destroyed him at The Bash.

Now, two years later, Miz has gained two things: more cockiness and the WWE Championship.

This is another potential half-an-hour match and will give both Miz and Cena a chance to prove they don’t need a guy like Shawn Michaels or Daniel Bryan to carry them to a good match.

The Rock will get involved in this match in some way, shape or form and based on comments on a few of my past articles, a lot of you think that Rock will screw Cena out of the championship.

I, however, do not believe that will happen.

I believe Cena is winning with a post-match beatdown by the Rock. He would then eventually cost Cena the title somewhere down the road, closer to when they have their match, if ever.

MY PICK: John Cena
