NFL Mock Draft 2011: Packers Select Akeem Ayers to Finish out First Round
"With the 32nd pick in the NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select..."
These are the words preoccupying Packer nation, as they await who will become the franchise's next icon for the next few seasons.
Well today we're here to unveil who will indeed headline Green Bay's 2011 NFL Draft. But with virtually no holes within Mike McCarthy's offense nor defense, mocking this pick will prove extremely hard. For the time being, however, GM Ted Thompson should keep a keen eye on UCLA's athletic outside linebacker Akeem Ayers.
As a four-year starter with the Bruins, Ayers accumulated 215 tackles with 15 sacks to boot. However a disappointing showing at the Combine has hurt his draft stock, leaving the door open for the Packers to draft him at 32nd overall.
Ayers maintains all the physical capabilities to become just another part of Dom Capers' successful 3-4 style defense, and has the tenacious ability to complement Clay Matthews and A.J. Hawk off the perimeter.
