Game Time

Last week the Maple Leafs faced the Penguins, Sabres, Blues twice, and will begin a home and home series against Detroit tonight.

Let's start with the Sabres game. The scoring remained at 0-0 through two periods of play, then the Maple Leafs jumped out to a two-goal lead.

That was when the rally began. The Sabres scored two quick goals in the third, including one with 11 seconds left. Then it went to overtime, when Ales Kotalik scored his first of the preseason.

The Maple Leafs went 1-1 against St. Louis. They won in Toronto with a 4-3 shootout victory, and then on Wednesday night, they lost, 7-3. The Maple Leafs are getting ready to wrap up their preseason, as they have three straight games, then three straight off days before opening the season in Detroit.

This Week: 2-2-0

Overall: 3-3-0

Luke Schenn

"You gotta love this, Joe!" "I do, I love it! Alright, don't lose it here, in, scores! What a move!”

The exact words of Joe Bowen and Greg Millen on Monday night, when Luke Schenn, in his first-ever shootout, came in and went backhand all over Manny Legace of the St. Louis Blues to help the Maple Leafs win in the shootout.

Fun fact: Luke Schenn had never been in a shootout in his entire career, including the WHL.

Kaberle on the Way Out?

Now that the Maple Leafs have officially entered rebuilding mode for real, they have began to go young. Even though Tomas Kaberle is only 30, could he be too old? Or maybe he’s just not a good enough leader for this team?

Kaberle is not the only one that could be on their way out. Pavel Kubina made some noise at the deadline, and his situation is the same as Kaberle’s. Last season, Kubina had a bounce-back second half, ending the season with 11 goals and 29 assists.
