Brock Lesnar vs. JDS: TUF 13 on Spike TV—Cardio Is King and More Eval Notes
After years of watching professional sports and playing them on a much lesser level, it’s become obvious to me how important endurance is. Nothing makes up for a talent/skill deficiency like a superior gas tank and nothing turns an elite tool kit into just your average tool faster than a poor gas tank.
I mention this because the first thing Brock and his coaches do is run the candidates through some cardio evaluations, measuring peak heart rates and how quickly the individual recovers. Very interesting.
As for JDS, you must give him credit for taking the gig despite his deficiencies in English. I doubt very much Lesnar (or any other American fighter for that matter) would’ve agreed to do the show in Portuguese. That’s courage of a different kind exhibited by dos Santos.
It’s also interesting to note the Brazilian eschews the American’s focus on cardio, opting to key on pure fight training instead.
Last note—Lesnar’s ditched the beard he was rocking for his tussle with Cain Velasquez. Considering how that blood bath deteriorated, probably a good idea.
