Brock Lesnar vs. Junior dos Santos: TUF 13 on Spike TV—The Rules Have Changed
There have been a few tweaks to the format this season and I’ll get to those after we discuss Nordin Asrih.
What is it about that German accent coming from a fighter that makes it infinitely more hilarious? I think it’s a combination of the Arnold Schwarzenegger caricature (yes, I know he’s Austrian) and the Hans and Franz skits from classic Saturday Night Live.
Although future generations will be totally justified in blaming the comedic impulse on the Pick Things Up, Put Them Down Guy from the ad above—amazing.
Incidentally, Chris Cope gives us the same “not hear for friends/fame” speech that Lesnar did—consider me less convinced when it comes to the contestants.
As for the rule changes, the powers-that-be have kept the wild card aspect of last season’s format, but have ditched the elimination bouts, which is a good call in my opinion. Those early fights were mostly sloppy affairs between newbies nobody knew.
Sometimes they were great, but I don’t think the show is sacrificing too much in the interest of getting straight to the meat and potatoes.
