The University of Utah Utes squeaked by the Oregon State Beavers last night with a huge drive in the last few minutes of the game, ending in a touchdown along with a two-point conversion that would tie the game 28-28.
After an amazing three-and-out stop, the Utes would get the ball back with about a minute left in the game.
Miraculously, Brian Johnson, who had not looked good the whole game, strung together a couple of great plays that would set the Utes up for a last-second win with a typically amazing field goal by Louie Sakoda.
That being said, with another win in the books, I really hope that moronic BYU fans can shut their mouths about Utah not being for real.
Although BYU is a good team, their schedule has lacked difficulty thus far. UCLA was clearly terrible, and so was Wyoming.
Utah is showing the world with their 6-0 record that they are gunning for that BCS bid, and they aren't going to let anyone get in their way.
Especially the BYU Kitty Cats.
One more thought.
Louie Sakoda is one of the best players in college football and is easily the best player on the Utes. Anyone who disagrees is a moron. I am willing to bet that Sakoda goes in the first round of the NFL draft.

Chill Renee... BYU fans want Utah to do well this season. That way, when BYU beats Utah at the end of the season, it will have a nice victory against a top-10 team to display to the BCS naysayers. That said, the victory over Oregon State hardly proved that Utah is for real. I mean, their record is 2-3... I'm sure that's going to shut lots of people up.

Sparky
the reason people think that is if you live and listen to local sports radio in SLC the over whelming majority of BYU fans want Utah to lose all their games.
While we all know that is a minority of people who call in to talk shows. I do agree with you Sparky that BYU should hope Utah does well in league play because if there is some type of jumbled mess near the top, because if both are undefeated then BYU could be at #5 and Utah be somewhere from 8-11 which could help BYU if they win jump into the title game. Long shot but still

Beating Michigan (who just beat Wisconsin last week) and Oregon St (who took out #1) proves ALOT more than anything BYU has done. The 2004 Utes blew out bad teams too. Been there, done that. BYU must do as Utah does and beat someone worth beating. And a one-point nail biter over a pathetic Washington squad due to a ridiculous endzone celebration penalty does not count....

So BYU plays a bottom feeder in the PAC10 on the road, in their house, wins by 1 point and BYU receives no "props" for the win. Instead they are dropped in the rankings because it was such a close game that they should have won by a larger margin. The team is questioned about how good they really are. They are overshadowed by the call a ref made. Now, another bottom feeder from the PAC10 (one more win than UW and a win against a underprepared USC team) goes into YOUR house and you barely win by a field goal with 1 second remaining in the game. Utah has a good team. I want them to go undefeated until Nov 22. Looking at their schedule from here on out, that is very possible as key games are played at home. But look at each one of their games so far. They have yet to play a complete game. In every game they seem to struggle for 1 to 2 quarters with turnovers and the inability to start and/or keep a drive going. You do that against a good team, like BYU, and you won't be able to come from behind. Especially the way BYU is able to capatilze on their opponents mistakes. Benching your starters in the third quarter, 2 games in a row, and still maintaining a shutout, no matter the team, is not something you can justify as lucky. Have you done it yet this season? You've played some "cream puff" teams as well (UNLV, Utah State, WEBER STATE!!! come on) and you didn't shut any of them out. You did post some impressive scores though. There's a long way to go until Nov 22. A lot can happen. And based on Utah's past, they will probably lose to lesser foe before then. If you barely won against a bottom PAC10 team at home, what do you think about TCU coming to your stadium on 11/6?

So, every blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. Look at last week. Unranked teams played solid games while the ranked opponent came out with their head in the clouds. I'm not trying to take away from the teams that beat the likes of Florida and USC. They definitely outplayed thier opponents. That's what I love about college football (and the NFL for that matter). I don't doubt Utah is "for real" as you put it. You say you hope BYU fans realize that. From all the articles I've read, and comments from both BYU and Utah fans, I think they acknowledge Utah has a great football team. I think you're more dissappointed with your rank and feel you should be ahead of BYU. Despite the scheduling, (which is determined years in advance and programs can go from great to a rebuilding program from one year to the next) and the strength of your opponent, you have to look at the past few years. BYU has worked hard to get the recognition they are receiving, and deserving of. BYU has the Longest active winning streak at 14, soon to be 15. 17-0 against the MWC making them the outright conference champs 2 years in a row. They already have one national championship...and don't give me any BS about how it came about or who should of played in the game or who we played. If your team had won a national championship, you know you'd bring it up too. You're mad because you are standing in BYU's shadow. They've taunted you two years in a row. You thought you had the games won up until the last minute in both games. I can see where you might be a little frustrated. But Utah's gonna have to prove themselves more than this year to gain the recognition you are seeking. I think that some of your wins could strengthen your case in the long run. Those teams that have beat ranked opponents will need to continue winning though. Only time will tell.

Stan I would not brag about BYU's schedule, because if you look at who Utah and BYU has played so far it is basically dead even. UNLV is not really a cream puff any more they beat ASU on the road?
Yeah Utah has yet to have a complete game, and at this time BYU is the better team.

Everyone here has at least one good point but I think I need to make a final say. I am a huge BYU fan and if you are a true BYU fan and you know anything about college football then you should be cheering just as hard for Utah as you are for BYU. I was at the game last night decked out in red, it made me sick but I did it because it was necessary. Sparky, man up and accept that Utah just beat a good Oregon St team. When you beat USC you have to play your best game and you have to have talent, it doesn't matter if USC didn't play theirs. Stan makes a good point about playing lower tier Pac-10 teams and getting different treatment for a win so don't be hating Utah fans, a win is a win so Daniel shut your mouth. It isn't BYU's fault that their schedule is the way it is, they were supposed to play Nevada instead of Northern Iowa but Nevada backed out. All they can do is beat whomever they play.

Bryan... you so crazy. I never said it wasn't a decent win. But it's nothing to make people "shut their mouths." Impressive win against USC notwithstanding, Oregon St. is just so-so. It's hard to seriously argue that a team with a losing record is "good," although maybe Oregon St. can still make a decent season out of this. Don't worry, everyone was convinced of Utah's prowess after their 16 point demolition of Weber St.
Something interesting: We all know that BYU has longest current winning streak with 14 wins in a row (should be 15 after tonight); but it's pretty cool that Utah has the second longest current streak with 7 straight wins. LSU, PSU, Texas Tech and 'Bama have won their last 6. Utah would have had a 15 game streak going right now, if not for one little loss late last year to can't-remember-who.

Bryan is a dummy bandwagon fan. I would NEVER EVER EVER wear blue to a BYU game. Not that I would ever go to one that wasn't against Utah. Man up and be a REAL fan and cheer for YOUR team.
I am not a MWC fan. I am a UTAH fan. anyone who thinks its all about the conference is stupid.

It's not just BYU winning. It's by how much. If Utah wants to have a chance at winning their defense is going to have to step it up.

jo jo, Utah's defense is actually their strong point who is playing very well. Their offense is what is not being consistent by having dumb turnovers.

Wow . . . um . . . wow.
There are plenty of BYU fans that respect Utah, but apparently it's not mutual.
Still, go MWC. I hate the BCS and hope it rots in hell.

BYU fans do want Utah to do well until their game in November, but let's not let things get out of hand. Utah's win against Oregon State - on a questionable pass interference call nonetheless - proves nothing. Oregon State beat USC, but that doesn't mean they're the new #1 - not even close. They lost at Stanford and got slaughtered at Penn State. They play well at home (USC game), but OSU is not a good road team.

Yeah and BYU's win over Washington makes them look good? Give me a break. Anyone will tell you, Utah's schedule has been much more difficult than BYU's.
Why don't you learn a little bit about sports and then come and try and talk trash?

James Gowentine 9 months ago
I wasn't trying to talk trash. I was stating the facts. It's not Utah against the world no matter how much you want it to be. That Washington game was AT Washington. Yes, Washington isn't that good, but that game was on the road. Hence, USC losing AT Oregon State. It doesn't necessarily mean OSU is actually a better team than USC. What would happen if that game was at USC. These things matter.
And UCLA might not be as good as originally thought, but a 59-0 pasting trumps anything Utah has done. Real BYU fans are NOT saying Utah sucks.
at Michigan (2-3)
UNLV (3-3)
at Utah State (1-4)
at Air Force (3-2)
*Weber State (4-1)
Oregon State (2-3)
*FCS team
Now I know you're thinking, "BYU hasn't played anyone either." That true. I never said their schedule is tough. But you said Utah's schedule was much more difficult, and it's clearly not. You can say it's more difficult - and even that's a stretch - but you can't say it is much more difficult, because the sad realization you might want to come to is the toughest part of both teams' schedules is to come. Oregon State and Michigan aren't that good, and neither are Washington and UCLA. TCU, Utah, and BYU are all better than the non-conference schedules both teams played. Both teams want to talk about whose schedule is tougher, but it is irrelevant - they play each other. Comparing schedules is for teams that don't play each other. We'll find out at the end of the year who's better.
Why don't you learn how to successfully assemble arguments and then rewrite all of your replies? You can't just discount argument, because you said so:
"Anyone who disagrees is a moron."
"anyone who thinks its all about the conference is stupid."
"You don't know anything. Shut up and go away."
"Why don't you learn a little bit about sports and then come and try and talk trash?"
Yeah, these are the ingredients of coherent rhetoric.
