Cleveland Browns Thrilled A.J. Green Passed Up In 2011 NFL Mock Draft
Kiper: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
McShay: Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
Banks:Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
Kirwan: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
Rang: Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
My take: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
Dick Jauron would certainly love to have a player like Bowers land in his lap: his first year would go a lot smoother with the Clemson star to move around. But I don't think he falls nearly this far, and Nick Fairley and Robert Quinn don't seem to be the right fit for the rebuilding Browns.
Joined by an impressive running game in Peyton Hillis, Colt McCoy made great strides in his rookie year: that was pretty remarkable considering how thin the Browns are at the wide receiver position (although they do have a nice tight end in Benjamin Watson). Imagine what they can do with a true number one pass catcher like Green.
Kiper nailed it with his entry: "Green answered all the necessary questions at the NFL combine, checking in just a hair under his listed 6-foot-4, with a 211-pound frame that could easily take on a little more weight, and his 4.48 speed in the 40 was solid given his size.
"In Green you have a player with the profile of an immediate impact talent at wide receiver and a solution on the outside in Cleveland, where they are desperate for a true No. 1 wideout. He's a perfect fit, and it's hard to imagine the Browns passing on him if he's around."
All things being equal, I think Julio Jones would be a comparable pick for the Browns here, but things aren't equal. No matter how quickly he heals, I think Jones foot injury will cause him to tumble a few spots and be an godsend to the Rams at 14.
