Tyron Smith Too Talented To Pass In 2011 NFL Mock Draft
Kiper: Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
McShay: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
Banks: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
Kirwan: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
Rang: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
My take: Tyron Smith, OT, USC
As is the norm, once a prohibitive top pick, Nick Fairley, has fallen recently because scouts and mockers are overthinking to move and over-scrutinizing everything about him.
"Fairley is one of the biggest boom-or-bust prospects in this year's class," McShay noted. "On one hand he's the best interior pass rusher in the class, but on the other he takes a lot of plays off and there are plenty of questions about his football character. The more teams we talk to the more concern there are about how he has interviewed, and that's why he's falling in a lot of recent mock drafts."
But I don't see him 'tumbling" this far and the Titans will plan on other moves.
New head coach Mike Munchak--and nine-time pro bowler at guard who was also drafted eighth overall in 1982--knows the impact an incredible talented and athletic offensive lineman can make.
There's been a real buzz about Smith lately and although there are two solid tackles in Tennessee (who don't seem to be slowing down Chris Johnson) I can see him landing here and giving the Titans more options in the passing game.
