Will Dallas Cowboys Switch Directions In 2011 NFL Mock Draft

Kiper: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

McShay: Tyron Smith, OT, USC

Banks: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

Kirwan: J.J.  Watt, DE, Wisconsin

Rang: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

My take: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

A few weeks back it seemed inevitable that the Cowboys would pursue a new cornerback in the draft: Mike Jenkins struggled last season and Terence Newman could be a salary cap casualty this offseason.

"Amukamara should transition quickly, has shown the requisite speed for a top-10 pick at the position and has a really solid frame at 206 pounds," Kiper noted. "Any whispers that this guy could project better at safety are unfounded. He's a potential Pro Bowl corner."

Either way, they need to improve their pass defense and Rob Ryan would love to have another corner: remember, his defense in Cleveland last year had some nice growth with another rookie, Joe Haden, at corner.

McShay's pick of Tyron Smith is becoming more and more popular. Reports out there have the Cowboys in love with Smith and his athleticism, but there needs in the secondary are much more pressing. And don't be surprised if the club is looking to create a buzz so maybe someone will make them a nice offer to move up.
