Barnett Out

Clark FoslerCorrespondent IOctober 2, 2008

The Royals announced this afternoon that pitching coach Bob McClure, bench coach Dave Owen, first base coach Rusty Kuntz and bullpen coach John Mizerock were all offered contracts to return to the team in 2009.

Third base coach Luis Silverio was not offered a major league contract, but has been offered another coaching position in the organization.

Hitting coach Mike Barnett was not offered a contract.

The Royals will announce a new hitting coach and third base coach at a later date.

We’ve discussed this at length here, but it was painfully obvious that the Royals had to make a change at hitting coach.  Their collective team approach at the plate was horrendous.  To have 30 games without drawing a walk was criminal.

This is a positive first step.  Now GMDM and Trey Hillman have to bring in someone who preaches getting on base and can instill a philosophy designed to raise the team OBP above .320.

The revolution continues.
