The Cubs are down 0-2 in their series against the Dodgers as they got clobbered 10-3 in an awful defensively played game. Cubs were done in by a terrible second inning defensively. The nightmarish second inning got started when Andre Ethier leadoff with a single that was followed up by a James Loney bouncer to Ryan Theriot who tried to make a bare handed play but instead the ball went into left field. Blake Dewitt then hit into what looked like a double play but Mark Derosa fumbled the ball and Ethier scored with runners still on first and second. Now it was Lee's turn to get into the infield error action as he mishandled a grounder by Casey Blake. After Chad Billingsley struck out Rafeal Furcal laid down a great push bunt passed Zambrano and was safe at first on a late throw by Derosa which also drove in James Loney to make it a 2-0 game. The scoring culminated with a bases clearing double by Russell Martin giving the Dodgers a 5-0 lead. The Cubs were charged with four errors as Aramis Ramirez added one in the fourth inning and Ryan Theriot had an errant throw to first late in the game. The other runs for the Dodgers came in the fifth when Manny Ramirez hit a bomb to deep center field. Matt Kemp drove in the seventh run on a double that scored Ramirez. Then the Dodgers tacked on two more runs on a couple of singles. They capped off the night with their 10th run when Casey Blake hit a single to score Juan Pierre. The Cubs got one in the seventh on a double by Jim Edmonds and their final two on a Mark Derosa double in the bottom of the ninth to make it a 10-3 game. Carlos Zambrano pitched a pretty good considering how badly his defense played behind him. He pitched 6 1/3 innings where he allowed seven runs 3 of which were only earned while fanning seven. Chad Billingsley pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out seven and walking one. Cubs are now down 0-2 in the series and most surprisingly is that they loss both games at home. The Cubs became the 23rd team to lose both of their home games in a five-game series, of those 22 only one has come back and won the series that team being the 2001 New York Yankees against the A's who were obviously managed by Joe Torre who is in the Dodger dugout now.
