The Rock vs. John Cena is the dream match in wrestling today, and after reading the latest interviews hyping WrestleMania XXVII, it appears that this match is more likely to happen than ever before.

It is no secret that John Cena wants this match, as it was Cena who initiated the real-life animosity between the two wrestling megastars when he questioned The Rock's commitment to the WWE. Cena's desire for this match was made clear in a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports:

“I have been willing to do anything for that match. I will do anything for that match,” Cena said. “If I have to talk more trash about The Rock, I’m your guy.”

However, it is not up to Cena whether this match happens. The ball is in The Rock's court. In the past, Rock has been sure to stress that he has retired from in-ring competition, but recent interviews with The Great One suggest that "one more match" may actually happen.

When speaking to Entertainment Weekly,The Rock said the following:

"Coming back into the business, I wanted to partner up with [WWE chairman and CEO] Vince [McMahon] and create something special that’s never been done that’s big on a global scale. And hosting WrestleMania answered that. In addition to that, it’s not only hosting. It’s evolved into me whopping somebody’s ass. I’m looking to do something big and special with Vince after WrestleMania."

Is the ass in question John Cena's? While this quote is certainly open to interpretation, an interview with Yahoo! Sports is likely to provoke fierce discussion amongst fans when Rock's response to wrestling again is inevitably scrutinised:

“I’ve never said never. I’m open to it,” he said. “For years when I was asked that, I kept my emotions very close to my sleeve. I would say, ‘No, I don’t see myself wrestling a match,’ because I didn’t want to leave that open too much. I wanted to make sure I was concentrating solely on my goals in acting. It’s ‘The People’s Era’ that’s getting ready to happen,” he said. “It’s just beginning.”

It must be said that this may be The Rock and John Cena teasing the match for the sake of generating interest in WrestleMania XXVII.

However, who is to say that The Rock did not catch the wrestling bug during his return in February? Dwayne Johnson has wrestling in his blood, wrestling is what made him who he is today—who is to say he won't return?

Will we ever see The Rock vs. John Cena? It seems more likely than ever before.

Time will tell.
