After today's game, Tom Renney had a conference call with Rangers beat writers who pressed him on whether Chris Drury's performance against Metallurg clinched the captaincy.

Here's what Renney had to say, as reported by Sam Weinman at The Rangers Report...

“Leadership doesn’t fall into the category of one game,” Renney said of Drury, who came up with two huge goals today against Metallurg. “All of us understand his ability to lead, but, as I mentioned before, he’s not the only one who can lead this team.”
Renney has said he will make a decision on his captain before Saturday's season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
As I said in my postgame analysis, I'd be shocked and disappointed if Drury didn't get it after today's performance.
