Chelsea FC saw themselves in third place in the Barclay's Premier League and with strikers Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou set to miss time while playing in the African Nation's Cup, realized they needed to make a move.
This meant that it was time once again for Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to go into his seemingly infinite amount of funds and buy a striker. This time that striker came in the form of the 28-year -old French international Nicolas Anelka. The price was a cool 15 million pounds (approximately: $29.4 million).
Anelka was aqcuired on Friday, Jan. 11 and was with the club in time for their game against Tottenham the following day.
The two sides agreed on a deal which will last 3.5 seasons (remainder of '08 through the 2010-11 season). This deal was also signifigant historically because it made Anelka the most expensive man in football history, meaning that over the course of his career no other player has had a larger combined transfer fee paid for him.
