Virginia Commonwealth University is one of the hottest teams in the tournament that hardly anyone has ever heard of.

They were previously known for their upset of Duke a few years back, but now VCU disciples across the globe have something to cheer about, their first Sweet 16 appearance in school history.

VCU is playing stellar basketball right now with a chip on its shoulder and is coming off of two big upsets against Georgetown and Purdue. Something that was huge surprise from a team that many experts thought should not even make the field.

VCU may be a mid-major, but they have the athleticism of a major school.

Their pressure defense is stifling and their back door cut offense was able to stop one of the best defensive teams in the nation in Purdue.

As a team, they shoot 43 percent from the field and almost 40 percent from beyond the arc.

VCU has an easy road to the Elite Eight if they can keep their composure for the game against Florida State, who is a No. 10 seed.

It will be the only 10-11 seed matchup of the Sweet 16 and could possibly be one of the more competitive games of the round.

Look out for this team in the rounds to come.  They may seem like a team that is not going to do anything once they run into a good team, but they have a shot to make a run at the Final Four, if they play their cards right.
