WrestleMania XXVII: Why Christian Has To Be Added to the Main Event

*Just as a side-note, I want to clear up some things. This is NOT an article claiming that Christian will win the title at WrestleMania if he gets added. I'm all up for del Rio winning the title at WrestleMania just to get the prestige of winning the Royal Rumble back. This is just an article that states that Christian should mainly be added to the match because of storyline purposes.

If you watched this week's SmackDown!, then you will be one of two things.

  1. You will be extremely angry that Edge and Christian didn't tag team to take on the Corre.
  2. You will be in shock that Christian won clean against del Rio in a Steel Cage match in the main event.

For me, I was both. I was extremely livid that I wouldn't get to see SmackDown! "reek of awesomeness," and I was in shock that Christian had beaten one of the fastest rising superstars in WWE history, clean.

But both in my shock and rage lay a very vivid happiness, one that was overdue for approximately six years.

Christian, one of my most favorite wrestlers of all time, could might as well be making his way into the World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania XXVII.

This is quite possibly the closest Christian will get to main-event Mania (in a title match no less!), and it would be a huge blow if Christian weren't added to the match at WrestleMania between del Rio and Edge.

Allow me to explain. When Dave Meltzer had released that semi-official card for WrestleMania XXVII on his site, I was extremely depressed.

Christian was once again thrown in the sidelines, in a match with the Big Show, Kane, and Kofi Kingston against the Corre.

The fact that house shows right before WrestleMania had advertised matches featuring Christian against the members of the Corre made it seem like Dave Meltzer was right.

And after this Monday's RAW, I realized that most of the matches that Meltzer had listed were indeed coming into fruition.

And when the commercial aired for SmackDown! during RAW where it said that Corre vs. E&C (albeit being my favorite tag team of all time) would be for the tag team titles, I was extremely full of dread.

Surely, this would mean that Christian would be involved in some sort of storyline against the Corre for WrestleMania temporarily taking his attention away from del Rio.

I was sure that Christian would be involved in storyline with the Corre, but at least I would see my favorite tag team on TV again.

But when I tuned in on Friday night, I was surprised. Not only would Christian and Edge vs. Corre not happen, but Christian vs. del Rio was scheduled in a cage match. At that point, I thought it was over for Christian for sure. Del Rio would beat Christian into submission, thus ending their six-month long feud.

Again, I was extremely surprised. Christian beat del Rio clean. Christian had just defeated that Royal Rumble winner, in a cage match, CLEAN.

Albeit, Christian escaped the cage, though a victory is a victory in the WWE (Remember Undertaker "tapping out" to CM Punk at Breaking Point?).

Some people online are saying that this is simply wrapping up Christian and del Rio's feud allowing him to focus on Edge at Mania. I respectfully disagree. Booking 101 states that the heel must retaliate, always against the babyface when he loses.

Unless it something labeled as a last match, you have to always book your heel's strong, especially if they're going into WrestleMania with a Rumble win.

Others are saying WWE won't add Christian in two weeks before WrestleMania because there will be no build up then. The buildup has been occurring on SmackDown! ever since Elimination Chamber last month.

Christian has some real bad blood against del Rio. So does Edge. And Edge and Christian will fight each other as best friends. It's as simple as that. Take it as Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. John Cena at Survivor Series 2009. There you go. A perfectly fine storyline that's good for Mania.

Not only that, at this point, Christian HAS to be added to the match. The time for adding Christian to ANY other match on the card has both come and gone. At this point, it would make no sense at all if Christian was added to any other match on the card at WrestleMania.

I predict del Rio to retaliate next week on SmackDown! because of his loss to Christian, leading to a possible rematch with del Rio and Christian, but this time with Edge as special guest referee. If Christian wins, he gets added to the match. If he doesn't...well...del Rio wins.

Booking wise, it makes absolute sense to have Christian added to this match. Of course, this is the WWE. I might as well throw out any rules of booking outside the window.

I will not be surprised at all if Christian doesn't get added to the match.
