2011 NFL Draft: Are the Eagles Looking to Get Michael Vick Some Protection?
The 2011 NFL Draft is almost here, but what is the Eagles plan going to be come draft day?
Michael Vick was the Comeback Player of the Year in 2010, having an outstanding season after taking over as the starting quarterback in Philadelphia. Now that they have their quarterback, the Eagles have got to do whatever they can in order to give him some much-needed protection.
As mentioned before, there aren't any dominant, can't-miss linemen prospects in this draft, but there are some good ones that should be available when the Eagles are selecting at pick No. 23.
ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. has the Eagles selecting Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi in his latest mock draft.
"Philadelphia should be targeting the line on both sides of the ball. They could also consider secondary help, but might consider that a slight reach here. In Carimi they get a guy who loves to run block and will sustain those blocks. He battled a number of top defensive ends in Big Ten play and could fill in at either tackle position early, potentially starting on the right side with the goal to become a starting left tackle in what should be an explosive offense."
With how good this offense was this past year with Vick under center, it really does seem like they are one or two offensive linemen away from being great. If they are able to add Wisconsin's star offensive tackle, who was voted as the best lineman in the nation this year, this gives the Eagles a guy who can come in, start right away, and make an immediate impact.
Kiper points out that the Eagles need help on both sides of the ball. This may be true, but adding a tackle, espcecially a guy like Carimi, is so much more important right now for this team.
Could you imagine this team if Michael Vick has more time to throw and create plays with his legs. This is scary to think how good this team could be if they are able to snag this guy.
