Well the NCAA Tournament is here in earnest today, and what an entrance.
The morning and afternoon sessions were filled with close calls and buzzer-beaters, as almost every game lived up the the March Madness moniker. In the morning session alone, we had three game-winning shots that came with five seconds remaining or fewer.
There was Butler winning at the buzzer to advance against Old Dominion in a phenomenal back-and-forth affair, which was followed by No. 13 Morehead State pulling off the first upset of the tournament when Demonte Harper hit a cold-blooded three with the final seconds ticking away to knock off No. 4 Louisville.
That excitement was only followed by the great finish between Penn State and Temple. Talor Battle hit a game-tying three from the parking lot only to see Rudy Fernandez step up with the game-winning floater with 0.4 seconds left to send Temple into the Round of 32, and send Battle home in his only NCAA Tournament appearance.
So, already, it's been a fantastic day of basketball. And it's only primed to get better as the afternoon session is wrapping up and the evening and nighttime sessions get going. Kentucky escaped with a win today against Princeton, and there are still three games in progress during the second session. Richmond versus Vanderbilt and Northern Colorado versus San Diego State are at the half as of this posting.
There's still some good games to come as well, including Kemba Walker and UConn against Bucknell, and Jimmer Fredette and BYU taking on Wofford. There's some lower seed matchups tonight too that could be prime upset territory, including No. 11 Gonzaga versus No. 6 St. John's, and No. 12 Utah State taking on No. 5 Kansas State.
So keep it right here for all the latest updates and recaps of the Tournament games as the madness ensues.
