The 34-24 score was a little too close for comfort against Mississippi State, but the Tigers still won the game and also have that marquee win at Auburn.

Well, they are the defending champs and are still undefeated. Why not? We'll see if they are truly deserving in the next few weeks.

(previous: 3) The beneficiaries of my top two from last week (USC and Florida) tripping up and falling down. A workmanlike performance against conference rival Mississippi State last week, but the Bayou Bengals will need to maintain their focus and not get caught looking ahead. Nevertheless, they did what they needed to do. Warning, though: may drop a place next week due to the ever-present opponent, BYE. Next game is @ Florida on Oct. 11.

Until the sitting champ loses, they stay #1.

Someone explain to me how so many teams are getting jumped in the polls this year after winning games. LSU took care of business with their win against Mississippi State after an emotional win at Auburn. Charles Scott should get Heisman hype after his fourth straight 100 yard game. Jarrett Lee looks to be taking control of the offense in Andrew Hatch's absence. The defense allowed the Bulldogs to move the ball and score late in the game. LSU gets a well timed bye week before travelling to The Swamp.

If LSU somehow plays well through the SEC and only ends up with one loss or even goes undefeated, we could see a 2003 NC rematch with Oklahoma.

I just have that feeling that the Tigers are going to have a Trojan-type of loss where they are beaten by a double-digit underdog. Until then, they stay this high.

Once Alabama is out of the picture they will be reestablished as the top team in the Sec. For now they're in a close tie with the Tide.

Joe Barton #2

Despite losing several key starters and Ryan Perrilloux in the off-season, the Tigers are looking very impressive. After the comeback against Auburn, LSU is the best team in the SEC, in my opinion. They have many weapons at the skill positions and aren't having to rely so heavily on thier young QB, Jarrett Lee. This team is loaded and could make it back to the BCS title game.

Typical LSU football, great defense. Even with the loss of Glenn Dorsey, the Tigers remain a defensive powerhouse. They improved to 4-0 over the weekend with a victory over Mississippi State.

Jared Reback #3

Steady as she goes. Solid win against Mississippi State.

The defending national champs are one of the few unbeaten teams left in the nation. The next month will prove if they are true contenders.

andrew johnston #3

great defense
