Get ready for some entertaining basketball when the No. 7 seed Washington Huskies take on the No. 10 seed Georgia Bulldogs in second round action out of the East Region.
Tip-off is set for 9:45 ET at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte North Carolina. The game will be televised nationally on CBS, with the winner most likely taking on the No.2 seed Florida Gators in the third round.
Oddsmakers aren't giving the Bulldogs a great shot at pulling off the upset, as our NCAA Tournament odds have Washington favored by 5.5-points over Georgia.
Below, I provide a quick breakdown of each team, plus my NCAA Tournament predictions on who will advance to the round of 32.
Washington Huskies
The key to knocking off the Huskies is slowing down one of the best offenses in college basketball.
Washington finished the 2010-11 season ranked third in the country, averaging 83.5 points per game. The Huskies are a dangerous team on the break, as they can spot up and shoot the 3-point shot or attack the rim depending on what the defense allows.
The player that makes everything happen is junior point guard Isaiah Thomas, who comes in averaging 16.6 points and 5.6 assists per game.
When Thomas has it going, the Huskies are as good as any team in the country.
Washington will mix it up defensively with man-to-man, zone and a full-court trap, which makes it very hard for opposing teams to prepare from them on a short notice.
The Huskies come into the Tournament with an overall record of 23-10 and while they finished just third in the Pac-10 Conference with a mark of 11-7, they captured the Pac-10 Tournament title with a 77-75 overtime win over Arizona.
Washington went 4-1 against the likes of Arizona and UCLA, with the only loss coming by just 1-point at Arizona.
In non-conference play the Huskies were unable to grab a win against a team in the field of 68, but their three losses against Kentucky, Michigan State and Texas A&M all came by seven points or less.
Georgia Bulldogs
The Bulldogs don't bring the offensive fire-power that the Huskies do, but this is still a strong offensive unit.
Georgia really likes to work the ball in the paint and get high percentage looks. They will even use their guards down on the block and try and take advantage of smaller defenders.
Junior forward Trey Thompson leads the Bulldogs with a 16.1 scoring average, but they also get nice production out of juniors Travis Leslie (14.5 ppg) and Gerald Robinson (12.2 ppg).
Georgia also likes to mix it up defensively with a man-to-man and 2-3 zone.
Georgia finished up the season with a record of 21-11. They went 9-7 in the SEC, playing in the East Division that sent five teams to the NCAA Tournament. Georgia, however, went just 2-6 against the four other teams who made it out of the SEC, beating Kentucky early in the year at home and winning at Tennessee.
The Bulldogs went 2-3 against quality non-conference opponents, beating Colorado and UAB, while losing to Notre Dame, Temple and Xavier.
Just like the Huskies, all three of Georgia's non-conference losses were close, as they lost all three by eight points or less.
My Predictions - Washington Wins: The Huskies really seemed to rise up to their competition, especially late in the year, and I think they will be too much for the Bulldogs to handle offensively.
I wouldn't be surprised if Georgia kept it close early, but in the end, I look for Washington to win in convincing fashion.
Good luck with your 2011 NCAA Tournament picks and feel free to leave a comment on who you think will win this game.
