Looked good in their first real test--they may topple OSU.
Lisa Horne #2
The Nits have played two quality teams, and dominated both.
Jeffrey McDaniel #3
The Nittany Lions dominated Illinois in a week when simply surviving meant something.
Kristofer Green #3
Jon Ellsworth #3
Allen Levin #4
The Nittany Lions are a force to be reckoned with. Their offense looks explosive as they put 38 points up on the scoreboard against Illinois. That was their lowest point total this season, which includes a 66 point game.
Chad Metz #4
The Nittany Lions are the class of the Big Ten, and they put a whipping on the team that beat last week's number one.
Jay Jones #4
Will Shelton #4
Paul Augustin #4
They have looked impressive early on. Four of the next five games are on the road, including games at Wisconsin and Ohio State. If thy can go 4-1 in that stretch and beat OSU, they should win the Big Ten.
Tim Pollock #4
Justin Potts #4
The Nittany Lions passed the first big test of the season in beating Illinois. However, Oregon State's win over USC makes Penn State's dominating win over the Beavers all the more impressive.
Timothy Croley #4
I don't care who you are, you have to be impressed with JoePa's boys so far this season. My pick to win the BIG Ten.

There's a long way to go...
Scott McDaniel #4
James Doker #4
Their domination of Oregon State is what puts the Lions ahead of Missouri, though each team bested Illinois in similar fashion.
Ian Zymarakis #4
Other then Bama I think Penn State looks like a team that has their eyes set on a prize bigger then the Rose Bowl.
Mark Balhoff #4
T.J. Beard #4
Oregon State's victory over then number 1 USC meant as much to the Nittany Lions as it did to the Beavers. Someone's 45-14 victory looks slightly more impressive now! Strong offensive showing against the Illini, and the defense contained Juice well.
Derrek Croney #4
Slight nod to the Nittany Lions who are playing their best football in years. At this moment, they are the class of the Big Ten.
Wesley Marshall #4
JoePa's teams seem to have a knack for looking good early in the season.

Have looked just as good as Texas, and have done it against better competition.

The "Spread HD" has looked great so far. The only question about this team was at quarterback. I would say that has been answered. They could, and maybe should win the Big 10.

College football is better when Alabama and Penn State are doing well.
Pete Dymeck #5
Oregon State, check. Illinois, check. Now overpowering Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Michigan becomes mandatory for Joe Paterno. If they can do that without looking ahead, the Nittany Lions could run the table.

(previous: 12) The big winners of the week, the Nittany Lions had a "whiteout" against Illinois and took care of business. Though much like Oklahoma, I'm still unsure about the relative quality of PSU--they could be anywhere between #5 and #11 at this point.
Ryan Williams #5
Bryan Gonzalez #5
Beating Illi by two touchdowns was big, if they play that way no one in the Big 10 will stop them from winning the conference.
Mike Bedgood #5
Mosang Miles #5
Bill Wilson #5
Good defense and good offense means very good team. Odds on favorite to go too the Rose Bowl.
Nicholas Pardini #5
With Wisconsin losing to Michigan, Penn State looks like the best team in the Big Ten. They also won their first tough game against Illinois.
Joe Bleacher #5
Very dynamic offense with a strong offensive line. Defense did well against Illinois considering their potent offense.
Jesse Monday #5
After proving themselves against a Big Ten school it is very easy to take this offense seriously. Ohio State no longer has its firm grasp on the Big Ten.
Josh Rosenberg #5
The defense for the first time is the second best part of this team. With the emergence of run-pass threat Darryll Clark, the spread offense is up and running again and vaults them into and almost certain BCS berth.
Ryan Gemmell #5
Very dynamic offense with a strong offensive line. Defense did well against Illinois considering their potent offense.

Not sure who I'd pick if they played Texas head-to-head tomorrow... but now they've been tested. The Horns haven't. So I put PSU one peg ahead.

Penn State looks to be a favorite to win the Big Ten, as long as they can get by Ohio State at the horse shoe.

The Nittany Lions got a quality win and looked good on primetime television doing it.

Part of me really wants to see Joe Pa win the Big Ten beat the Pac 10 representative at the "Granddaddy" and call it a career. That's the stuff movies are made of.

Another team who silenced their critics was Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions, who dominated Illinois for an impressive 38-24 victory, but they will have to wait to crack the top five until they go to Wisconsin in two weeks.

I am putting Penn St. up here for now but I believe they will stub their toe one time this year...not sure which game but I just don't see them getting through at 12-0. Even if they do and they play in the BCS title game, I believe they will prove to be about as competitive as Ohio St. has been in big bowls. I actually think Ohio St. has a chance to beat them this year. But keeping with the common trend, due to upsets and their record they are number 6 for now...

Good win over an up and down Illinois team. Big games with Ohio State and Wisconsin coming up.

The Nittany Lions are back.

This is the best team in the Big Ten.

JoePa appears to have the Big 10 in grasp. If they go unbeaten, it'll be hard to keep them out of the national title game.

Looking like the best of the Big Ten.

An impressive display against Illinois. The problem is how many quality wins they will be able to rack up in the Big 10.
Archie Adams #7
Their offense is truly one of the most powerful in the nation, so it will be interesting to see if they can keep it up with four straight tough games, three of them being on the road.

Whatever you may think about Joe Paterno and his age or whether or not he has control of his team; you have to admit that PSU is looking good so far. After their first real test against Illinois, the Nittany Lions look like the best team in the Big 10. Darryl Clark has proven to be an effective QB. Evan Royster is a very talented RB. The Lions still have to play both Wisconsin and Ohio State on the road which will be the games to watch.

The class of the Big 10 had their white-out...is that suppose to make us forget about the Big 10 problems in the big games?

This team is overrated. It's upsetting that they won't play Northwestern.
Ashley Kleffer #10
We'll see how that goes.
