Pittsburgh Pirates: James McDonald To Skip Start, But Will Be Okay

Adam BernacchioAnalyst IIIMarch 15, 2011

Pittsburgh Pirates’ starting pitcher James McDonald will miss his next scheduled spring training start because of a pain in his side. The Pirates are going to rest him for most of this week to be sure that he experiences no setbacks.

The Pirates will most likely take it easy with McDonald, so he will be ready for Opening Day. All indications are that this injury isn’t serious and he will be ready to go in April.

McDonald came over to the Pirates in the trade last season that sent Octavio Dotel to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He went 4-5 with a 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and averaged 8.7 K’s/9 in 64 IP.

McDonald represents one of the rare good trades the Pirates have made over the past 20 years. He should be the ace of the Pirates in 2011.
