Let's not overreact here. We've seen this story before. The Trojans will be clicking on all cylinders by year's end... and if they get sent to the Rose Bowl, will dismember a Big Ten team.

So the Beavers can beat the so-called "Best Team Ever at USC"...it's time for Pete to not let the players read the papers for a while. Well, maybe he should and let them read on how bad they played.

I am dropping USC to number 7. Some may agree but most probably won't but hear me out first. USC did just lose to Oregon St., yes this is true. However, I believe by the end of the year Oregon St. will end up much better than anyone expected and they will go to a decent bowl game and win. Oregon St. starts out slow every year and find themselves...I think they will have momentum now from this USC upset. Also, I do not drop them any lower than 7 because who am I going to put ahead of them? BYU? No offense BYU fans, I just think if you played a game vs USC you would have little to no chance. Texas Tech? Maybe a closer game vs USC but they have a pretty bad defense and USC would outscore them quite easily. Plus USC has a great secondary. Lastly, USC, even if you think their team is overrated, has the most talented team in America because of all their incredible athletes. As long as Carroll and company get back to work the rest of the season and play with some heart and determination i expect them in the top 5 possibly top 3 in the end. And although it maybe true USC struggles vs the little teams...they always show up in big games.

Falling seven spots may not be far enough, but with almost everyone else below them losing too, No. 8 seemed fair.
Jared Reback #8
It was the vintage USC letdown game in the Pac=10. Shocked to see it come so early. Not a true indication of their talent, though they should work on stopping the run.

I'll consider the loss to Oregon State just a flash in the pan and only drop the Trojans seven spots. I still think this team is as good as anyone in the country.

Lost to unranked team. Drop should be significant.

Early loss to an un-ranked Pac 10 will only open the door for other conference foes.

USC is still one of the most talented teams in the nation if not the most, but a let down against Oregon State again almost drops them out the top ten.
Scott Pusich #9
(previous: 1) No excuses for the Trojans; they just didn't have the same level of intensity as the Beavers. They've had challenges on the road before, but for some reason Corvallis seems to present a particularly tough challenge. With the loss, the home games against #19 Oregon (next week) and #17 Cal (on Nov. 8) increase in relevance. 2nd-highest ranked team with a loss (2-1).
Nicholas Pardini #9
USC shocking loss at Oregon State spells trouble for the Trojans, but they are not out of the national title hunt. With the nation's best defense and their only road challenge being at Arizona, USC can easily run the table. Pete Carrol, however, needs to be able to keep his players motivated against inferior teams.

Jon Ellsworth #10
Allen Levin #10
Ok, so they were stunned by Oregon State in a 27-21 loss, but they're still National Title contenders.
Dustin Delahoussaye #10
Paul Augustin #10
Though not out of the national title race, they will be if the defensive line plays like they did against Oregon State again.
Will Chambers #10
Upset AGAIN at Oregon State, but still a dangerous team by any standards
Joe Barton #10
The Trojans were upset for the second year in a row by a conference foe. Oregon State came up with the huge victory knocking the Trojans off their seemingly easy root to Dolphin Stadium this January. There was an open road all the way to Miami, but USC couldn't watch out for the trap game. Despite this, USC still has a chance to make it (cite 2007). Mark Sanchez probably lost the Heisman, but he is one of the most talented QBs in college football. With a stable of RBs, they have a very balanced offense. The defense is typically dominating and will find its way back to form. Ray Maualuga is probably the best defensive player in college football. I have no doubt that Pete Carroll will have this team turned around.
Justin Goar #10
They should drop further than this, but I feel generous today. The Trojans have to run the table to be in title talks otherwise it's the Rose Bowl again for the Men of Troy.
Michael Shibley #10
Don't bury the Trojans yet, still loaded and can be National Champs.
Ryan Williams #10
Mosang Miles #10

Lost a tough game on the road now to see how they bounce back.
troy korth #10
Another unexplainable loss. Same old USC. Great team that does not show up every week.
Peter Fleischer #10
The fact that they can lose this early and only fall this far just shows how few quality one loss teams there are in the country right now.
Derrek Croney #10
Now the Men of Troy know they have to bring their "A" game for 4 quarters -- not 2.
Jayson Stock #10
The Trojans will have a hard time moving up from here, since their conference is almost the worst in the nation.

USC's loss looked worse then Georgia's. If you want to argue... well, you are wrong.
T.J. Beard #11
The Trojans may be a better football team than the Bulls, but I cannot justify putting a 2-1 team in front of a 5-0 one.
Ian Zymarakis #11
Who would've thought that playing at Oregon State would be USC's cryptonite?
James Doker #11
They have the best win of any one-loss team, but not many chances to prove themselves over the rest of the season.
Owen Munro #11
Derek Stephens #11
Oregon State embarassed the Trojans
Joe Bleacher #11
That was a terrible game against Oregon State. However this is their in-conference horror. Every team has a foe that plays them well. USC has tremendous athletes and they always play well in big games.

Still haven't played anyone. Possibly the worst loss of any in the top 10 last week. Oregon State is a good football team. Putting them at #12 is a gift in my eyes.

I will consider putting them back in my Top Ten if they beat Oregon, but the way Oregon's offense has played, I'm not doubting an Oregon win.

Sorry Trojans when you loose to a 1-2 team you drop pretty far
Josh Rosenberg #14
Brian Cushing and Ray Mauluga coulnd't stop freshman sensation Jaquizz Rodgers of Oregon State. Like I said when they were number one. They are the best team, for now... The next week, one loss!
Adam Wren #15
David Morgan #15
Really, you lose to Oregon State 2 out of 3 times? Really? Is Penn State just that dominating that they can spank the team that has ruled USC 2 out of 3?
Jeff Nygaard #16
miamimitchdotcom #16
Soft underbelly and over rated, not a good combination.
Pete Dymeck #16
The Trojans got smacked up at Oregon State. Quarterback Mark Sanchez didn't look like a winner and the defense look overrated. Remember, USC struggled against the same Oregon State team that Penn State demolished.
