According to an Associated Press report that has just been released, Ricky Williams admitted that he was tempted to smoke marijuana during the bye week for the Miami Dolphins.

Ricky Williams stated the following: "So there was definitely an urge...But I just thought about what I have to lose and it was easy...The urge did not last long."

If Ricky Williams had relapsed, that would have been the end of his career in the NFL. While I would like to congratulate Ricky Williams on resisting the temptation to relapse, this serves as a reminder of two realities.

One reality is that the addict will always have urges and temptations; it is part of the mindset of the addict.

The other reality is that sports and drugs do not mix. We would have to look at the sports personalities who threw their careers and health away for the sake of one moment of drug use or one drink.

It is very important for Tony Sparano and the rest of the Miami Dolphins to keep a close eye on him since he seems in danger of relapsing. The Miami Dolphins cannot afford any mishaps that could threaten their chances of winning or destroy the team from within.

The use of drugs is a cancer that can destroy the morale of a team. It is also important that Tony Sparano and the Miami Dolphins lay down the law of the NFL, which states that drug use of any kind will not be tolerated.
