Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins has skated for the first time on Monday since suffering a concussion that has kept him out of the lineup since January 5.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, Crosby has been symptom free for a few days now, which is a very good sign for the NHL superstar. Rehab may be a long process as Crosby must recoup his fitness and conditioning.

Crosby was on the ice in full equipment for about 15 minutes before the rest of his teams practiced in Pittsburgh. According to the Pittsburgh Penguins' website, Crosby stickhandled around some cones and took a few shots.

Crosby was first hit hard in the Winter Classic by former Washington Capitals' center David Steckel and then was hit by Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman on January 5.

The Penguins are 15-9-5 with Crosby out of the lineup. However, it is unlikely they can keep up this pace.

Pittsburgh's other star, Evgeni Malkin is out for the season with a torn right ACL and MCL.

For the Penguins' sake, hopefully they can get back Crosby for the postseason.

The Penguins were able to trade for some offensive help by acquiring James Neal from the Dallas Stars and Alex Kovalev from the Ottawa Senators.

Although Crosby has missed 29 games this season, his 32 goals are tied for sixth in the NHL and his 66 points are eleventh.
