March Madness 2011 Could See the Eagles Left Out of the NCAA Tournament

Heading into the Boston College Eagles' matchup with the Clemson Tigers on Friday, it was largely believed the winner of the game would advance to the NCAA Tournament, while the loser would be left out.

Well, Friday has come and gone, with the Tigers blowing out the Eagles, 70-47.

Not only does Clemson's win boost their chances of making the NCAA Tournament, it demoralizes BC's chances.

The biggest hit to Boston College didn't necessarily come with the loss (although, that certainly didn't help), it came from the final score, which was just as bad as it looked.

The Eagles were outplayed from the first minute of tip-off, and never were able to fight back to respectability before the final buzzer sounded.

This year should count blowout losses and quality wins even more, with the NCAA Selection Committee saying the level of play would be looked at more closely.

The Eagles' level of play was certainly not NCAA Tournament-worthy on Friday, and it could be the final nail in the coffin.

It is true that there is still chance for the Eagles, as they are still considered a bubble team with a 20-12 overall record, but they would most likely need some teams to drop for that to happen.

They are only 1-7 against top 50 RPI teams, and 7-10 against sub-100 teams.

The Eagles, with their latest loss, may have just dive-bombed, but their still is a chance they are saved before they hit the ground.

My Prediction: Boston College is NIT-bound.
