Fernando Torres: Liverpool's Best Buy

Spanish striker Fernando Torres was bought by Liverpool this summer for a fee rumored at around £20 million from Spanish club Atletico Madrid.  Since then, he has made vast contributions to Liverpool F.C. by scoring 16 goals so far.  In my opinion, he has saved Liverpool's entire season from going down the drain, scoring match winning goals.  Without the Spaniard's contribution, the club could be a much more undesired position, an embarrassing state for one of Liverpool's reputation.

For instance, take Liverpool's recent match against Middlesbrough.  Middlesbrough could have easily beaten a defeated Liverpool side, but Torres once again saved the day.  With 19 minutes remaining in the game, Torres received the ball and, after a brief stumble, dribbled straight to goal.  He hit a majestic 25-yard belter that saved Liverpool.

In their match against Chelsea, Liverpool relied on Torres to score a goal to hold last year's Champion's to a draw.  His speed and precision were put to clinical use to slot one in Chelsea's goal.

Torres, Torres, Torres....

Without this Spaniard, Liverpool and Steven Gerrard would be kicking themselves for not qualifying for Europe next season.  In fact, after Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, I would argue that Torres is the most important player for an English team.  A good goal is one that is nice and important, to paraphrase Eric Cantona.

Enough said.  Torres has scored some fantastic goals in recent games and one of the Reds' best buys.
