Everyone in the baseball world knows about the Mets debacle and the playoff berth that sprung from it. Since the Mets lost to the Marlins, the Brewers are benefiting and are in the playoffs. This marks the second year in a row that the Mets have thrown the playoffs away and this year they couldn't even do it in their last season at Shea.
When Johan Santana came over from the Twins to the Mets, I was almost certain that the Mets would make the playoffs this year. With players like David Wright and his 120+ RBI, Carlos Beltran, and Delgado already on the Mets, the addition of Johan Santana seems like it would make them a shoo in for the playoffs. I was mistaken. With not so great play down the stretch and Johan Santana and Oliver Perez the only pitchers contributing to the Mets sad attempts at flailing into a meager wild card playoff slot.
Johan Santana came off of just three days rest to win a clutch game Saturday having a three hit shutout against the Marlins. In the words of Jerry Manuel "that was gangsta", commenting on Johan Santana's outstanding game Saturday. Johan Santana is a phenomenal pitcher but you have got to have better offensive play than the Mets had.
You also cannot have as many missed opportunities as New York had either. There would be times while i watched the Mets play that they would strand two or three runners on base. It was sick.
The Mets seem to be on track to create a new sports record, Most Consecutive Chokes.
Now for CC Sabathia. He is a MAN! Sure his season started out in the gutter but after his trade to the Brew Crew, he fired up and pitched ten complete games over the whole season. He has come off only three days rest several times to win clutch games for his club down the stretch.
He is my leading contender for NL Cy Young and MVP. Hell, I'd even vote for him for president! He is one phenomenal pitcher. Having an 11-2 record with ten of those coming on complete games shows just how valuable CC is to his team.
For the Brewers sake, i picked them to make the playoffs this year somehow from the get go. With Ryan Braun's hot bat and great pitching form Sabathia and Sheets, the brewers sailed into the postseason after the Mets epic fail and are now set the play the Phillies in the first round of the playoffs.
